Job: Junior Sous Chef at La Compagnie Neal’s Yard

Based in: Neal’s Yard, London

Role Overview:

Supports the Head Chef in maintaining high food standards, managing the kitchen team, and overseeing stock and supplies. In the absence of the Head Chef, the Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of kitchen operations and supervising the team during service

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Kitchen Operations

  • Supports the Head Chef in designing and creating menus of small plates and dishes that fit the vibe and aesthetic of the wine bar.
  • Support the Head Chef to ensure effective control of stock purchasing, receipt, storage, preparation, and service with regard to quality and quantity.
  • Maintain a high level of food quality and production with the aim of exceeding our guest’s expectations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of kitchen equipment, communicate with the Head Chef when repairs are needed.

Team Management:

  • Support the Head Chef in managing the kitchen team, ensuring a smooth operation of the kitchen. In the absence of the Head Chef, supervise the kitchen team.
  • Take on leadership, mentorship, and training of the junior staff, encouraging their career development.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered and applied.

Reporting

In coordination with the Head Chef:

  • Ensure that the food operations are controlled in order to reach the desired cost of sales, maximizing potential and optimizing resources.
  • Manage the inventory and order stock as needed.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Have a strong team spirit.
  • Attention to details and customer needs.
  • Good organisational and leadership skills.
  • Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to a range of work situations
  • Be well spoken with excellent communication skills.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
