Floor Manager – Engel | The Royal Exchange 

Join the team at Engel, an exceptional bar, dining and events space situated on the Mezzanine of the iconic Royal Exchange in the heart of the City of London.

We are looking for an experienced and engaging Floor Manager to join our management team at Engel. Start date: September 2026.

This role would ideally suit someone with a strong restaurant and floor management background, combined with an understanding of bar operations and a genuine passion for delivering outstanding hospitality.

As Floor Manager, you will take an active role in leading daily service, managing the front-of-house team and ensuring every guest receives a warm, professional and memorable experience. You will work closely with the wider management, bar, kitchen and events teams to maintain excellent standards across both our regular service and private events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the floor during service, ensuring smooth operations and consistently high standards of hospitality.
  • Act as a host/receptionist when required, warmly welcoming and seating guests and creating an excellent first impression.
  • Manage, motivate and support the front-of-house team throughout each shift.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the floor, engaging with guests and ensuring an exceptional overall experience.
  • Support the training, development and onboarding of new and existing team members.
  • Ensure excellent knowledge and delivery of food, wine, cocktails and other beverage offerings.
  • Work closely with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure efficient communication and seamless service.
  • Handle guest enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally and effectively.
  • Support reservations, table management and the smooth flow of service.
  • Assist with stock control, operational procedures and maintaining appropriate cost awareness.
  • Work closely with the events team to support the successful delivery of private events and functions.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety requirements, licensing regulations and company procedures.
  • Support senior management in maintaining and continuously improving operational and service standards.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Bar Floor Manager, Assistant Restaurant Manager, Restaurant Supervisor or in a similar front-of-house leadership role.
  • Strong restaurant experience is highly desirable – we are looking for someone who understands excellent table and floor service, not solely bar operations.
  • Confident leading a team and managing busy services.
  • Excellent guest service, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of food, wine, cocktails and spirits.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of operational cost control.
  • Experience with POS and reservation systems would be beneficial.
  • Ability to remain calm, organised and positive in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays as required.
