About the Opportunity
A Pizza Cook at D.L. Mack's plays a key role in delivering the exceptional culinary experiences that define our brand. This position is responsible for preparing and executing pizzas with precision, consistency, and pride from dough handling to baking and final presentation. Pizza Cooks work with high-quality ingredients, follow established recipes and techniques, and ensure every pizza meets Vandelay’s standards for flavor, texture, appearance, and timing. In a fast-paced kitchen environment, they maintain an organized station, support seamless service, and contribute to a memorable dining experience through craftsmanship, attention to detail, and care.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare and execute pizzas according to Vandelay’s recipes, techniques, and quality standards, including dough stretching, topping, and baking.
Work confidently with pizza ovens (wood-fired, deck, or gas, depending on concept), maintaining proper temperatures and bake times.
Follow portioning, ingredient, and presentation standards to ensure consistency across every pizza served.
Manage multiple tickets during service while maintaining accuracy, pacing, and attention to detail.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked pizza station, adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Collaborate closely with the culinary team and front-of-house partners to support smooth, efficient service.
Execute proper knife skills, dough handling, and equipment usage to ensure quality and safety.
Assist with daily prep, including dough production, sauce preparation, topping organization, and ingredient rotation.
Uphold freshness standards through proper storage, labeling, and stock rotation.
Complete opening, mid-shift, and closing duties in accordance with kitchen procedures.
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old.
1-2 years of culinary experience in a full-service, high-volume restaurant.
Strong work ethic with a passion for delivering high-quality food and guest experiences.
Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
Solid understanding of culinary fundamentals, including cooking methods, mise en place, and knife skills.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to consistency, cleanliness, and proper food safety practices.
Ability to take direction, receive feedback, and work collaboratively in a team-driven environment.
Food handler certification as required by state and local regulations.
Desire to learn, grow, and refine skills within Vandelay’s culinary program.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work standing and walking for extended periods of time
