We are looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at one of Bath's most popular and long-established South American restaurants.
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will help lead the kitchen, maintain exceptional food quality, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the Head Chef in the daily management of the kitchen.
Lead the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
Supervise, motivate and develop the kitchen team.
Assist with menu development and seasonal specials.
Help manage food ordering, stock control and purchasing.
Monitor food costs, reduce waste and maintain GP targets.
Prepare and oversee high-quality dishes during service.
Ensure excellent food presentation and consistency at all times.
Assist with staff rotas and kitchen organisation.
Train and mentor chefs and kitchen porters.
Ensure all food is correctly labelled, dated and stored.
Maintain excellent hygiene, cleanliness and Health & Safety standards.
Work closely with the front-of-house team to deliver an outstanding guest experience.
Check all kitchen sections before service to ensure they are fully prepared.
Communicate menu changes, specials and function requirements to the team.
Report equipment faults and maintenance issues promptly.
Ensure all kitchen areas, dry stores and refrigeration remain clean and organised.
Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Senior Chef de Partie in a quality restaurant.
Passion for fresh food and high standards.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
Experience with stock control and kitchen management.
Good understanding of food cost control and waste reduction.
Knowledge of HACCP and Health & Safety regulations.
Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent).
Professional attitude with a strong work ethic.
Calm under pressure and able to lead a busy service.
Team player with a positive and proactive approach.
