Job Summary 

We are looking for an experienced, service-oriented Bar Manager to lead the bar operations at our Experience Zuzu Detroit location. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a high-volume, fast-paced bar environment and elevate the guest experience through excellent service, team development, and creative beverage programming.


What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities)

Bar Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee all aspects of daily bar operations, including staff management, product ordering, inventory, and service standards.

  • Lead, schedule, and supervise bartenders, barbacks, and support staff to ensure an efficient and high-energy environment.

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance with health and safety standards behind the bar at all times.

  • Ensure the bar is fully stocked and operational before each shift and during service.

  • Develop and enforce bar SOPs, drink recipes, and pouring standards to ensure consistency.

Guest Experience

  • Drive a welcoming, high-quality guest experience through speed, accuracy, and hospitality.

  • Engage with guests, manage VIP experiences, and address concerns or special requests promptly and professionally.

  • Collaborate with front-of-house leadership to ensure a seamless service between bar and dining.

Beverage Program & Promotion

  • Partner with leadership and suppliers to develop seasonal cocktail menus and signature drink offerings.

  • Identify trends and curate a compelling beverage selection, including spirits, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic offerings.

  • Support the planning and execution of bar-related events, tastings, and promotions to drive traffic and revenue.

Team Development

  • Hire, train, and mentor bartending staff with a focus on product knowledge, customer service, and efficiency.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, recognition, and performance feedback.

  • Foster a positive team culture rooted in respect, professionalism, and growth.

Business & Financial Management

  • Monitor bar sales, track KPIs, and identify opportunities to drive revenue and increase profitability.

  • Maintain tight control over inventory, waste, and pour costs through consistent systems and audits.

  • Ensure compliance with responsible alcohol service laws and company policies.

  • Manage cash handling, tip-outs, and POS reporting.

Your success with us requires these qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; hospitality or business degree is a plus.
  • 21+ years of age.
  • 4+ years of high-volume bar management experience in a restaurant, bar, or club environment.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, beverage cost control, and vendor relationships.
  • Creative approach to cocktail development and beverage programming.
  • Skilled in staff leadership, scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and reporting tools.
  • Must be self-motivated, guest-focused, and results-driven.
  • Food handler’s card and valid Responsible Alcohol Service Certification.


Working Conditions: This is a full-time position. Day and hours will vary.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  This position is regularly required to stand, reach, bend and lift heavy objects. The noise level in the work environment is typically high.  


  • Stamina and Endurance: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often during busy shifts, to supervise and assist staff throughout the premises.

  • Mobility: Capability to move quickly and efficiently through the dining room, kitchen, and other areas to ensure smooth operations.

  • Strength: Ability to lift and carry light to moderately heavy items, such as trays, chairs, or other equipment, often weighing up to 20-30 pounds.

  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in handling small tasks such as managing POS systems, handling paperwork, or assisting with guest service.

  • Good Vision and Hearing: Essential for observing the dining area, monitoring service quality, and communicating effectively with staff and guests.

    Tolerating Stressful Environments: While not purely physical, the ability to maintain composure and handle fast-paced, high-pressure situations is crucial.

  • Flexibility: Ability to bend, kneel, or reach when necessary, such as adjusting seating arrangements or resolving issues in various areas.
