Scope & General Purpose of the Job:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our accounts department. The successful candidate will assist with income audits, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable functions, and support the preparation of management accounts, contributing to the financial accuracy and integrity of our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Income Audit:
- Input trial balances and cash sheets into spreadsheets daily.
- Reconcile cash and credit card receipts against reports generated through Opera.
- Maintain accurate daily cash books.
- Reconcile bank statements with cash receipts.
- Post bank transactions to Bank Excel Files.
Queries and Reviews:
- Investigate credit card queries, bill requests, or chargebacks.
- Resolve corrections and adjustments in collaboration with relevant team members.
- Follow up on cash and credit card discrepancies.
- Liaise with operational managers to address cash shortages or overages.
Internal Audit:
- Ensure adherence to cash counting and movement procedures.
- Conduct weekly inspections of floats.
- Respond promptly to any queries during the lodgment process.
Preparation of Monthly Management Accounts:
- Assist the Financial Controller in preparing detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support the production and presentation of budgets and forecasts where required.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations:
- Assist in the monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
Accounts Payable:
- Supervise the accounts payable function.
- Maintain the creditors ledger and perform monthly reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly supplier payment files and ad-hoc weekly payments.
Accounts Receivable:
- Oversee the accounts receivable process.
- Ensure accurate payment allocations.
- Generate weekly AR reports for review.
Reporting:
- Provide daily and weekly revenue reports to the General Manager, including forecast vs. actual analysis.
- Prepare monthly AR and weekly AP reports.
General Duties:
- Maintain organized filing systems for all financial paperwork.
- Keep your workspace tidy and processes streamlined.
- Handle all financial information confidentially.
- Deliver excellent customer service both over the phone and in person.
- Participate in hotel and group meetings to ensure effective internal and external communication.
- Foster a positive team environment, promoting morale and pride in the work.
- Comply with all statutory and legal health & safety, fire, hygiene, licensing, and employment regulations.
- Strive for continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounts department.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A relevant accounting qualification or studying towards one (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting software (preferably Opera).
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
