Accounts Receivable Assistant

 

Bringing in the cash is a vital role in any business. At the heart of any great Finance team is a tenacious Accounts Receivable Assistant, using their strong relationships with customers to support the management of cash flow.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Accounts Receivable Assistant will be responsible for managing the company’s debtor ledger, ensuring timely collections, and maintaining positive relationships with key customers. You will work closely with Sales, Operations, and Finance to support the smooth running of the credit control process in a fast-paced environment.

What kind of things will I be doing?

Here are just a few of things you’ll be getting stuck into:

  • Proactively manage and collect debts from a portfolio of customers
  • Monitor customer accounts and ensure timely payments
  • Investigate and resolve customer queries and payment discrepancies
  • Evaluate new customer credit requests and review existing credit limits
  • Managing and liaising with the credit agency
  • Prepare regular reports on debtor balances and collections performance
  • Liaise with internal departments to resolve account issues and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Assist with month-end closing activities and cash forecasting
  • Maintain accurate records of communication and agreements
  • Setting up new customer accounts and codes for the Sales Ledger
  • Managing and liaising with the credit agency
  • Releasing sales orders on daily basis and putting accounts on credit hold if necessary
  • Chasing debts via phone, email and with overdue letters
  • Sending out monthly statements and invoices
  • Producing debtors lists
  • Handling queries in relation to statements, invoices, credits and retro claims
  • Making postings on accounting systems
  • Allocating all BACS payments
  • Processing contras, retros, request payment transfers to Purchase Ledger
  • Filing remittances for audit purposes
  • Reporting of upcoming expected cashflow to senior management.


What kind of things have I done before?

You will be the person responsible for credit control in our Finance team, so experience in a similar role is essential. Experience in a similar business would be even better and allow you to hit the ground running.


What kind of person will I be?

  • Proven experience in a credit control role, ideally within the FMCG or a similar fast-paced industry
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting or ERP systems
  • Knowledge of credit checking and risk assessment processes
  • Tenacious problem solver
  • A customer-focused mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
