The Relais Henley

As Night Porter / Night Auditor, you will play an important role in ensuring The Relais Henley is safe, secure and professionally managed throughout the night, while providing a warm and attentive service to our guests.

This is a varied, hands-on position where you will take responsibility for the hotel overnight. You’ll welcome late arrivals, assist with early departures and guest requests, support overnight food and beverage service, complete night audit procedures and ensure the hotel is clean, secure and ready for the following day.

Working on a casual basis, this role would suit someone who is dependable, confident working independently and takes pride in delivering thoughtful, personal hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Overnight Service

  • Provide a warm, professional and discreet service to guests throughout the night
  • Welcome late arrivals and assist with early departures
  • Respond to guest enquiries, requests and concerns promptly and professionally
  • Assist guests with luggage and other practical requirements
  • Deliver personalised service and ensure guest requests are followed through
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to overnight guest concerns, noise complaints or other incidents

Night Operations & Audit

  • Complete night audit procedures accurately and ensure reports reflect the previous day’s business
  • Ensure ledgers balance and floats, bank and card submissions are accurate
  • Maintain accurate overnight records and prepare clear handovers for the morning team
  • Support the processing of relevant orders, delivery notes, purchase orders and invoices
  • Ensure hotel procedures, standards and policies are followed throughout the night

Food & Beverage

  • Prepare and serve late-night snacks, light refreshments and drinks in line with hotel standards
  • Take and deliver overnight room service orders
  • Clear trays and maintain service areas to a high standard
  • Follow food safety, licensing and responsible service requirements at all times

Hotel Presentation

  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of reception, lounges, corridors, guest toilets, entrances and back-of-house areas
  • Ensure public areas remain welcoming and presentable throughout the night
  • Set up, refresh and clear meeting, private dining and event spaces when required
  • Help ensure the hotel is fully prepared and presented for the following day’s operation

Safety & Security

  • Carry out regular fire, safety and security checks throughout the property
  • Check doors, windows, alarms, keys and access points in line with hotel procedures
  • Respond appropriately to overnight emergencies, maintenance issues and security concerns
  • Escalate issues when necessary and maintain accurate records
  • Ensure health, safety, hygiene and other relevant requirements are followed at all times

About You

You will be:

  • Naturally warm, welcoming and guest focused, computer literate, able to answer the phone professionally
  • Reliable and comfortable taking responsibility during overnight hours
  • Calm and confident when dealing with unexpected situations
  • Organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently while remaining part of the wider hotel team
  • Happy to take a hands-on approach across different areas of the hotel, serving drinks, late night snack, setting up meeting rooms and cleaning of pubic areas
  • Professional, discreet and trustworthy
  • Passionate about delivering high standards of hospitality

Previous hotel, reception or night experience would be an advantage, but we’re equally interested in people with the right attitude, reliability and genuine desire to look after our guests.
