Join us at The Machrie, Islay, where you’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring our equipment and vehicles operate at peak performance to support one of the most renowned golf courses in the Hebrides.

As a Mechanic, you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing all mechanical equipment and systems used across the golf course and hotel. Your expertise will help ensure a safe, smooth, and efficient operation, contributing to the overall experience of both our team and guests.

What Your Days Could Look Like:

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine servicing, repairs, and inspections on mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and small engines to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical issues and carry out cost-effective, timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Develop and manage a digital preventative maintenance schedule to prolong the life of company assets.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an up-to-date digital inventory of parts and supplies needed for maintenance and repairs.
  • Record Keeping: Log all maintenance and repair work in a digital format using company-approved systems.
  • Servicing: Conduct all summer and winter servicing as directed by the Head Mechanic, Asset Manager, or Course Manager.
  • Workshop & Equipment Oversight: Maintain workshop cleanliness and organization, ensure all tools and machinery are stored and handled safely, and conduct daily on-course equipment performance checks.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, provide training on basic machinery operation when required, and wear the appropriate protective equipment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in turf machinery or mechanical maintenance, preferably in a golf course setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in mechanical repair and maintenance, with knowledge of irrigation systems and turf care practices.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Certification & Compliance:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Certified to use grinding equipment
  • Trained in tractor driving and all-terrain vehicle operation
  •  First aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Technology & Administration: Understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and TurfKeeper software for digital maintenance tracking.
  • Team & Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, provide clear advice, and foster a positive team environment.
