Department: Head Office
Reporting to: General Manager
Direct Reports: Events Operations Manager, Events & Private Dining Manager, Events Coordinators


Role Purpose

The Head of Events is responsible for the overall direction, creativity, profitability, and standards of all (wine) events delivered at 67 Pall Mall London. This role owns the events calendar, commercial performance, and flagship experiences, ensuring that every event reflects the Club’s reputation for wine and creative excellence while delivering clear financial discipline.

This is a strategic leadership role, not a hands-on delivery role by default. Operational execution is led by the Events team with the Head of Events focusing on creativity, member relevance, pricing, margin, quality control, relationships, and long-term planning.

This role requires a good understanding of the wine industry.


Key Objectives

  1. To curate and deliver a best-in-class events programme that reflects 67 Pall Mall’s position as the world’s leading wine members’ club.
  2. To ensure all events and member trips (national and international) are commercially sound, properly costed, and delivered within agreed budgets.
  3. To lead and develop a high-performing events team with clear ownership and accountability.
  4. To protect and enhance margins across private dining, St James’ function room events, offsite events, and flagship occasions.
  5. To act as an ambassador for the Club at key member-facing and industry events.
  6. To work in close partnership with the Wine, Kitchen, Membership, Marketing, and Operations teams to ensure seamless delivery and consistency of standards.

Scope of Responsibility

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Own the full events P&L, including forecasting, pricing strategy, and post-event reconciliation.
  • Set clear margin expectations and pricing frameworks across all event types and trips
  • Approve all event budgets, contracts, and proposals prior to confirmation.
  • Lead commercial planning for flagship events including (but not limited to):
    • Summer Party (circa 900 pax)
    • Wine Gala (circa 300 pax)
  • Identify and implement improvements to the events menu offering, pricing, cost control, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify new and exciting travel / trip opportunities for members.

Events Programme & Calendar

  • Own the strategic direction and balance of the events calendar, including:
    • Private dining
    • Masterclasses and function room events
    • Offsite and partner events
    • Curated national and international (wine) trips
    • Key club calendar moments and public holidays
  • Ensure the programme reflects member demand, brand positioning, and commercial objectives.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop the events leadership team.
  • Set clear expectations around roles, responsibilities, and decision-making authority.
  • Ensure effective delegation
  • Oversee performance, development plans, and appraisals for events team.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Maintain strong working relationships with:
    • Head of Wine Operations & Sommelier team (wine, service, glassware, staffing)
    • Executive Chef, Lounge and Clubroom Kitchen teams
    • Operations and Cellar teams (logistics, wine movement)
    • Membership and Marketing teams (communications and engagement)
  • Act as the escalation point for complex or high-risk events.

Member & Brand Representation

  • Be visibly present at key events where senior leadership presence adds value.
  • Represent the Club with members, partners, producers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Ensure event hosts feel supported, informed, and well looked after without unnecessary duplication of roles.

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure robust systems are in place for:
    • Event costing and approval
    • (Digital) Function sheets and run-of-show documentation
    • Wine and equipment logistics (delivered by Events & Wine teams)
    • Clear handovers for evening events where Events are not present
  • Quality-control event execution through structured reviews rather than constant physical presence.

Commercial & Financial Accountability

  • Monitor event performance against budget and margin targets.
  • Review post-event financials and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Work with Finance to ensure accurate reporting, forecasting and presenting
  • Ensure revenue opportunities are maximised without compromising standards.

Leadership Behaviours & Expectations

Working Pattern & Flexibility

  • This role requires flexibility, including attendance at key evening and offsite events. However a 5 days, Monday to Friday schedule is common.
  • Visibility is expected where it adds value; routine delivery is delegated appropriately.
  • Administrative and planning work may be undertaken off-site when appropriate, but member-facing presence remains a core expectation of the role.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all events comply with licensing, health & safety, and risk assessment requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct in line with company policy.
  • Adhere to all Club standards, procedures, and codes of conduct.
