Up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus annual performance bonus and fantastic benefits 


The Newt in Somerset

The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with ancient woodland, historic gardens and far-reaching views; a new and unique destination with luxury hotels, spa, restaurants and an abundance of homegrown produce. Visitors can take a tour of the gardens, deer park and cyder press, dine in the Garden Café or browse our farm shops. Attracting some 200,000 visitors per year from all over the world, our vibrant and thriving garden attraction is animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and educational programmes.

 

Our Human Resources Team

The team at the Newt are what makes it such a special place to visit and work. The HR department is at the heart of the business and the HR team are committed to ensuring that the Newt is a great place to work through people centric concepts that support the overall business goals.  We manage a varied team across the estate from our gardeners to our bakers...from our spa therapists to our farmers. We offer support with tailored recruitment, experience and development programmes and opportunities for engagement and reward. Position Summary

We are looking for an engaging and energetic Hospitality HR Manager to partner with the hotel and Visitor Attraction operational areas. This role will work closely with the Head of HR and central HR team as a dedicated resource for our hospitality teams. With responsibility for all aspects of operational and strategic HR, be a trusted coach to support the management team to learn, develop, grow and solve real business problems.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in a busy hospitality environment, and understand the importance of excellent guest service. A strong knowledge of industry recruitment, operational standards and confidence in the delivery of training are all key requirements for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The effective recruitment, on-boarding and exiting of staff across hospitality areas of the business in line with statutory requirements, internal company policy and system requirements 
  • The development and management of Discipline, Grievance and employee absence and all other employee relations issues through to resolution
  • Act as a champion and change agent to ensure practice is relevant, up to date and consistent. Build strong credible relationships and not be afraid to challenge the norms of existing thinking with pragmatic, engaging HR interventions. Share thoughtful impact assessment, advice and risk management. Resolve, and de-escalate conflict in change management, problem solve to remove barriers of change.
  • Focus on the retention of good people in the business, training and supporting managers to develop their teams
  • Support on cross-functional business projects
  • Work with the HR and Hospitality team to create and implement apprenticeship, internship and graduate programmes
  • To engage with industry networking events
  • To be proactive with local educational centres and be involved in local community projects

Skills and Experience

  • This position will require high energy, creativity, a willingness to engage and negotiate, and have a strong people focus and approach.  
  • Successful candidates will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience gained within a generalist HR environment
  • Extensive experience within the Hospitality and/or Tourism Sector
  • Either fully or partly CIPD qualified
  • Previous experience working with key HR processes of recruitment, salary benchmarking, disciplinary, grievance and terminations.
  • Ambition to excel in a changing environment
