This role is based in Middlesbrough.

Introduction 

The KFC Youth Foundation is the corporate foundation that was setup in 2015 and is financially supported by KFC UK&I. The KFC Youth Foundation is a charity. 

But we aren’t ones to rest on our laurels and over the last 18 months we have been developing a strategy to transform ourselves into a service delivery organisation. It is our ambition to create KFC Youth Foundation Hubs; amazing spaces with awesome youth workers that allow young people who most need it, to feel safe and secure. 

We are opening our first Youth Hub at The Resource Centre in Middlesbrough this summer. It is our intention to deliver open access youth services with a particular focus around food education, employment and food aid, by creating a training kitchen and cafe. 

What will you be doing? 

  • Ahead of the KFC Youth Foundation Hub opening you will be feet on the ground in Middlesbrough during the development of the Youth Hub. The following is typical of the range of duties the Lead Youth Worker will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required  

Service Delivery  

  • Effective planning of a range of different high quality work with young people - play and youth work and early help provision, that meets the needs of children, young people and families including through direct and partnership delivery with third sector providers.  

  • Delivery of high quality face to face work with young people using a range of engagement methods; inclusive of sports, arts, cultural and recreational activity that promotes the development of well-being 

  • You will have a local knowledge and be able to develop a meaningful dialogue with children, young people and families, with the purpose of assessing their needs and creating programmes to meet them.  

  • Value and promote diversity and establish an inclusive culture within the youth hub; where all are welcome and supported to participate, and where respect, honesty, and trust enables children and young people to thrive.  

  • Build strong links with the local community and support the growth of positive perceptions of children, young people and their families.  

  • Identify and provide young people with appropriate information, support and signposting relating to the issues that impact on their lives  

  • To undertake outreach work to maximise the reach of the programme and target young people not currently engaging in our provision.  

  • Ensure safeguarding of all young people involved.  

  • Attend meetings and network forums as directed.  

  • Commit to continuing professional development to meet changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training activities.  

  • To create a warm and welcoming environment within the session for all young people  

  • Any other reasonable duties as identified by the Youth Hub Manager and appropriate to the level and grading of the post.  

Leadership  

  • To provide line management and supervision to delivery team members (e.g. Youth Workers, Occasional Instructors, Volunteers, etc.)  

  • Follow KFCYF policy and procedures for health and safety are adhered to (e.g. ensuring no unauthorised persons are on site; ensuring risk assessments are followed; young people sign in and membership forms containing emergency contact details are completed, etc.)  

  • Complete risk assessments are carried out for the premises, activities and services and updated as and when necessary.  

Administration  

  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of attendance data and other information as required.  

  • Maintain records of intervention

  • A satisfactory DBS check at enhanced level is required.  

  • Experience in safeguarding children and young people  

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with young people and staff  

Experience  

  • Experience of working with young people aged between 11 – 25 years  

  • Experience of planning and hosting programmes which engage, support and motivate young people using a range of methods  

  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of key agencies working with young people, including their statutory responsibilities and the ability to maintain effective communication and working relationships with all partners.  

  • Ability to initiate and maintain effective communication and working relationships with a relevant range of people and organisations  

  • Ability to work with children and young people who present with varying needs  

Desirable  

  • A professional or occupational qualification; in Youth Work, Teaching, Health or social work  

  • Knowledge of regional/local networks, structures and initiatives Knowledge of government policy structures and initiatives in relation to young people  

  • Working with young people from specific interest groups such as mental health services, NEETS etc  

  • First Aid qualification  

Personal Qualities  

  • Innovative and creative with a ‘can do’ approach.  

  • Friendly, outgoing, and confident.  

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with a very wide range of people.  

  • Ability to work in a fast-changing environment.  

  • Ability to work through ambiguity and uncertainty and remain calm under pressure.  

  • A creative, self-starter with a bias towards action.  

  • Adaptable with a growth mind-set, open to feedback, learning and development
