The General Manager has full accountability for the commercial, operational and people performance of their Kings Gym facility, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability and an exceptional member experience.
As the leader of the business, you will take ownership of all aspects of the operation, including commercial performance, membership growth, retention, team development, customer experience, compliance and brand standards.
Working closely with the Line Managers, you will drive revenue, maximise profitability and create a high-performing culture that delivers exceptional member experiences while achieving agreed business targets.
This role requires a commercially minded leader who can identify opportunities for growth, analyse performance data and take decisive action to improve results across all key performance indicators.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead all aspects of the gym operation, ensuring the facility consistently delivers against commercial, operational and customer experience objectives.
- Take full accountability for the gym's commercial, operational and people performance, delivering against revenue, profitability, membership growth and retention targets.
- Manage and personally ensure the day-to-day smooth running of Kings Gym facilities.
- Analyse business performance metrics and implement action plans to improve revenue, member engagement and operational efficiency.
- Drive membership sales, renewals and ancillary revenue opportunities to maximise commercial performance.
- Develop and execute local business and community engagement initiatives to increase brand awareness and membership growth.
- Line manage all Kings Gym employees within your facility.
- Ensure full legal compliance, including Health and Safety responsibilities.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve service delivery.
- Record and monitor daily safety checks on all equipment, reporting hazards and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
- Ensure all potential hazards are reported, actioned and communicated to the Line Managers.
- Support facility tours and membership sales activities.
- Demonstrate effective leadership and communication through Kings Gym communication platforms.
- Produce accurate business reports and analyse performance data to support commercial decision-making.

Communicate professionally with members, suppliers and colleagues through written correspondence, including email and internal communication platforms.

Demonstrate competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook, to manage reporting, administration and operational performance.
Team Leadership
- Develop, lead and maintain the Kings Gym culture, values and behaviours.
- Inspire, motivate and develop a high-performing team that consistently delivers excellent member experiences and commercial results.
- Recruit, train, coach and develop your team at all levels, from Team Members to Leaders.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and implement development and improvement plans.
- Lead your team to achieve success in audits, mystery shopper visits and operational assessments.
- Ensure company principles, policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Own all aspects of performance management, ensuring compliance with employment policies and procedures.
- Create a culture of accountability where all team members understand their contribution to the gym's commercial success and member experience.
- Lead by example as the business leader within your facility, making decisions that positively impact both member satisfaction and commercial performance.
Commercial Management
- Own and deliver the commercial performance of the gym, ensuring achievement of all revenue, profit, membership growth and retention targets.
- Monitor and analyse weekly and monthly business performance reports, taking corrective action where required.
- Prepare, review and present business performance updates and action plans to the Line Managers.
- Drive membership sales through effective lead management, conversion strategies and local marketing initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to increase secondary spend through retail, supplements, personal training and additional services.
- Manage labour costs, payroll and operational expenditure in line with agreed budgets.
- Deliver labour scheduling that balances exceptional member service with commercial efficiency.
- Develop and implement local sales and marketing plans to drive growth within the community.
- Take ownership of membership retention strategies and member engagement programmes.
- Ensure all team members understand and contribute to the gym's commercial objectives.
- Produce and deliver business action plans to improve underperforming areas and maximise opportunities for growth.
Brand Reputation
- Ensure all public-facing merchandising, communication and social media activity reflects Kings Gym culture and philosophy.
- Ensure member issues are handled efficiently, professionally and discreetly.
- Monitor online reviews and social media commentary, escalating potentially brand-damaging issues to the Operations Director.
- Respond appropriately to online reviews in accordance with Kings Gym guidelines.
- Maintain the facility to Kings Gym standards, ensuring members consistently receive the experience promised.
- Act as an ambassador for the Kings Gym brand within the local community and wider business network.
General Duties
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, all employees are expected to:
- Deliver excellent customer service through member interaction, query resolution, membership upgrades and merchandise sales.
- Educate members on the safe and effective use of gym equipment.
- Ensure all fitness areas remain clean, organised and well-presented.
- Organise weights, plates and equipment and encourage members to maintain facility standards.
- Complete cleaning schedules and basic equipment maintenance checks.
- Actively supervise the gym floor and conduct regular facility inspections.
- Maintain a clean and professional reception and workspace environment.
- Manage conflict situations professionally and in accordance with Kings Gym policies.
- Complete opening and closing procedures as required.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Support the promotion and marketing of facilities, services and programmes.
- Maintain high standards of performance and professionalism at all times.
- Communicate effectively with members, emergency services and external agencies where required.
- Adhere to all Kings Gym policies, procedures and reasonable management requests.

Specific targets will be agreed and communicated by your line manager.
Salary
Starting salary of £30,000 per annum.
Working Hours
- 40 hours per week.
- Monday to Sunday operation.
- Flexible approach to working days and times required to ensure effective management of a business operating seven days per week.
