Director, Senior Corporate Counsel (Food, Sustainability and Marketing):
The Director, Senior Corporate Counsel will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and collegial environment with business partners across the category-defining Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant CAVA, with ambitions to share its unique offering throughout the U.S. You will report to the VP & Senior Associate Chief Legal Officer and serve a critical role for CAVA supporting food innovation, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing projects, and negotiating agreements, helping to make CAVA’s mission to bring heart, health, and humanity to food into a reality, supporting CAVA’s fast growth across the country.

What You’ll Do:
Strategize, collaborate with, and support CAVA’s Culinary, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Sustainability, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, and Consumer Packaged Goods departments on new products, regulatory compliance, and commercial partnerships.
Review key laws and regulations, develop compliance solutions, and inform the enterprise of the same.
Manage cross-functional projects and processes to ensure compliance across various company initiatives.
Propose and review marketing materials across all channels related to food and menu items, including claims.
Inform strategic thinking across the enterprise regarding areas of regulatory interest.
Review and negotiate supplier agreements with food, drink, and packaging providers.
Undertake additional legal work as deemed fit.
The Qualifications:
Education & Experience
J.D. and active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
7+ years of law firm and/or company legal department experience. Some law firm experience is preferred.
Comfortable reviewing laws and regulations and providing clear and cogent analyses and practical advice on their applications.
Experience with contract drafting, including drafting from scratch and with an attention to detail and reconciling provisions that may potentially conflict with each other or the practicalities of the business.
Familiarity with any of the following subject matter areas: sustainability, nutrition, marketing, supply chain, food safety and quality assurance, packaging, commercial, culinary, and operations.
Experience with reviewing and commenting on marketing copy preferred.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills and the ability to constructively, efficiently, and collegially collaborate with business partners.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be responsive, pro-active, and a self-starter capable of taking projects to completion and problem-solving along the way.
Willing to work flexibly (including, if required, at night and on weekends) and to travel, though minimal travel is expected.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details
For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
