Chef de Partie – The Living Space, Watergate Bay Hotel

A place to take your culinary career to new heights, Watergate Bay offers more than just a kitchen.

We’re here to share the joy of Watergate Bay for everyone, now and for the future.

That means doing everything we can to make sure our team, guests and planet stay happy through the moments we create and the impact we have. Through proper hospitality, active relaxation and thoughtful experiences, we create the time and space for guests and teams to feel their best. Everything we do is rooted in warmth, confidence and care — with sustainability and community firmly at our heart.

It’s what sets Watergate Bay apart from other hotels and drives us to find extraordinary talent to join us.

Coming back to good food, cheeks glowing from the day’s adventures, is at the heart of the Watergate Bay experience. We’re passionate about inspiring our guests with the best seasonal menus, local produce and contemporary dishes — creating eating and drinking experiences they’ll remember long after they leave.

Our Chef de Partie role

For people-watching and whiling away easy hours, The Living Space is a place to sit back, breathe deep and make yourself at home, all set against the backdrop of the bay.

As Chef de Partie, you’ll bring creativity, precision and energy to the kitchen. Working closely with our Head Chef and Executive Chef, you’ll help shape menus, maintain exceptional standards and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

You’ll be delivering consistently high-quality dishes while supporting and guiding the wider kitchen team, crafting everything from sharing longboards, vibrant salads, burgers, and grill dishes to fresh pasta.

You’ll also be part of a team that values connection, flexibility, variety and challenge — where everyone supports each other and takes pride in creating meaningful guest experiences.

This full-time position offers a 40-hour workweek.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Supporting our Executive Chef and Head Chef in the organisation and control of kitchen operations.
  • Preparing, cooking and presenting dishes to the hotel’s standards of quality and consistency.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and personal presentation.
  • Ensuring all kitchen procedures and schedules are followed, including daily checks and temperature logs.
  • Preparing for service in line with projected demand.
  • Supporting with stock organisation and replenishment as needed.
  • Ensuring smooth running of kitchen and back-of-house areas.
  • Carrying out food preparation, storage and service tasks efficiently.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment at all times.

You’ll also

  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to deliver seamless service.
  • Remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Take ownership of your section and responsibilities.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve and develop.

What you’ll be sharing with us

  • Experience at Chef de Partie level, or readiness to step up
  • A Food Hygiene certification
  • NVQ Level 1 & 2 (or equivalent) as a minimum
  • A genuine passion for food, particularly local and seasonal produce
  • Flexibility with working hours and shift patterns
  • A team-focused, supportive approach
  • Strong attention to detail and high personal standards
  • The ability to stay calm in a fast-paced environment
  • A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn and develop
  • Professional presentation and a guest-focused mindset
