Job Title: Driver for People with Complex Needs

Location: Locarno road, Ipswich

Salary: £15.00 per hour
Hours: Full-time 40hrs per week
Contract Type: Temporary (self-employed option available)


Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and safety-conscious Driver to transport individuals with complex needs, including physical disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and other support requirements. This role is critical to ensuring that passengers are transported in a safe, respectful, and dignified manner to and from appointments, day centres or other community activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport individuals with complex needs to and from destinations using Motability vehicles.
  • Provide appropriate assistance when boarding and exiting the vehicle, including the safe use of lifts, ramps, and securement systems.
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of passengers at all times.
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically with clients, their families, and support staff.
  • Carry out routine vehicle checks before each journey and report any defects or concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of trips, times, mileage, and incidents.
  • Follow all relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and infection control policies.
  • Work collaboratively with care staff, support workers, and other team members.
  • Respond appropriately in case of emergencies or unexpected incidents during transit.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Valid UK Manual driving licence.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or complex needs, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanour in challenging situations.
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding principles.
  • Ability to carry out basic vehicle checks and complete simple documentation.

Additional Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check required. We will provide a DBS check if you are not on the update system.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including evenings or weekends if necessary.
  • Physically fit to assist with mobility support as needed.
