Chief Engineer - Sofitel Dublin
Airport Hotel
We are seeking an experienced
Chief Engineer to play a pivotal role in the pre-opening and launch of Sofitel
Dublin Airport Hotel—a luxury flagship property managed by the award-winning
Arora Group in partnership with Accor’s Sofitel brand.
Directly connected to Terminal
2, this landmark hotel will redefine the guest experience at one of Europe’s
busiest international gateways and will feature:
- 412 elegant guestrooms
- Extensive meetings and events facilities
- A spectacular rooftop bar with panoramic
views across Dublin and the airport
The Role
As Chief Engineer, you will lead
from the front with a proactive, hands-on approach, taking full responsibility
for the efficient operation, maintenance, and safety of the hotel. You will
ensure the property is maintained to the highest luxury standards while
creating a safe, welcoming environment that consistently exceeds guest
expectations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain a high standard of guest room
repairs, ensuring high levels of attention to detail and professionalism
whilst respecting guest privacy
- Responsible for ensuring Maintenance
services are delivered to contracted hotels as per Arora & Brand
standards
- To provide technical management cover
during periods of holiday or absence in the hotel based teams
- Ensure maintenance teams are compliant
with the Company Health & Safety Management System and Fire Safety
Management System
- Ensure all reactive and planned
maintenance services are delivered via the Concept Evolution CAFM system
ensuring service delivery is monitored and optimized.
- Ensuring the CAFM system is continually
developed and updated to reflect the needs of the hotel and associated
managed assets.
- Production and presentation of KPI
reports to senior management utilising reporting functionality of CAFM
system
- Working with the Hotel team, implement
best practice and new technologies to conserve and optimise energy within
the contracted hotel as well as to actively manage and promote
environmental and sustainability initiatives ensuring best practice is
achieved
- To ensure that Risk Assessments are
entered into the CAFM system & Diligence and are associated with all
tasks performed by the hotel maintenance teams
- Creation and input of stock inventory for
contract hotel into CAFM, capturing existing stock items held and those
required to ensure prompt repairs to critical plant and services,
reconciling stock held to that listed within CAFM database.
- Ensuring all statutory maintenance and
certifications are undertaken on a timely basis and recorded within the
CAFM database.
- Management of the supply chain associated
with contract delivery.
- To act as H&S responsible person for
management of all H&S technical compliance issues at the contracted
hotel, responsible for the ongoing coordination of H&S policy and
procedures ensuring compliance with all relevant codes
- Management of refurbishment and
enhancement programs, to deliver within budget and projected time scales
from initial conception to completion
- Effectively manage direct reports, main
contractors and sub-contractors ensuring relevant delivery in terms of
standards, timescale and cost
- Develop “whole life/ life cycle” costing
initiatives around capital cost/planned maintenance regimes.
- To maintain an awareness of environmental
issues and play a key role in energy conservation programmes, assisting
the company in its achievement of relevant ISO standards and ensuring the
consumption of raw utility and emissions are minimised
- Ensure the contracted Hotel has
comprehensive planned maintenance programmes in place that address the
needs of the contracted hotel and to monitor and report on their
effectiveness
- To immediately act upon any unsafe
situation that arises and proactively ensure risk assessments are
communicated and safe systems of work employed
- To provide hands on skills as necessary
to maintain hotel plant, systems, fixtures and fittings in excellent
condition.
- The Chief Engineer shall
remain contactable at all times should emergency situations arise
unexpectedly and shall notify the company in advance of any occasion that
they will be unavailable giving sufficient time to permit alternative
cover to be put in place for the duration of their absence.
- Manage the external supply chain on all
procurement matters including new developments, refurbishment, and
enhancement activities.
- Proactively audit internal systems to
ensure consistent delivery of Key Performance Indicators associated with
the hotel
- To prioritize all jobs and complete
according to departmental, hotel and statutory standards and within the
appropriate timeframe.
- Comply with all relevant H&S
regulation
- Attention to detail to ensure that all
jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or
warning signs of problems are not overlooked

when work cannot be completed within the required timeframe and to agree

- Manage an inventory record of parts and
supplies, tools and equipment
- To ensure all areas of the hotel are
maintained in a safe condition and to take action immediately should any
unsafe situation arise
- To maintain accurate records of all work
undertaken
- To maintain satisfactory levels of
materials and spares to allow immediate rectification of faults and
ongoing provision for the hotels PPM schedule
- Systematic checking of all hotel areas,
services, systems, fixtures and fittings in accordance with the hotel’s
planned maintenance schedule, including daily walk round
- Ensure the accomplishment of the hotel's
preventive maintenance program goals.
- Carry out inspections of the plant rooms
- To carry out emergency repairs affecting
guest bedrooms, public spaces and services with an immediate effect.
- To perform ad hoc painting and building
repair work as necessary.
- To maintain a comfortable environment in
the hotel through BEMS system, checking and setting temperatures including
time schedules.
- To work an average of 40 hours
per week over 7 days as directed by shift pattern.
- To respond to all out of
hours call outs when necessary, due to emergencies arising unexpectedly
About You…
You will be an experienced hotel
engineering professional with strong leadership capability and a passion for
excellence.
You will bring:
- Knowledge of computer programs related to
Preventative Maintenance, plant automation, and other systems, including
devices that interact with such programs.
- Strong track record of performance in
budget forecasting, cost management, procurement and invoice processing
- Experience managing a multi disciplined
maintenance team supported by external contractors/ supply chain.
- Able to set and monitor SLA and KPI
targets for contract sites and then manage service delivery against them.
- The ability to identify maintenance
requirements for contract hotels and deliver high quality solutions.
- Electrically qualified with strong
M&E background with sound knowledge of all building maintenance trades
- Project management experience including
hotel opening and refurbishment programmes.
- Advanced Health and Safety or IOSH
qualification sound knowledge of industry regulations
- A strong track record of achievement
within a similar role
- Strong influencing skills with the
ability to challenge their peers and seniors when necessary.
- An excellent leader and people manager,
able to pull a team together, communicate the common goals and gain buy in
and support. Able to inspire and motivate on an individual and team basis.
- Excellent attention to detail with the
capacity to take on numerous projects across a multi site portfolio.
- A self-starter who is energetic,
passionate, highly motivated and extremely well organised.
- Natural ability to challenge convention
balanced against a knowledge of what is achievable, realistic and
practical.
- Strong communication and interpersonal
skills, a confident communicator at senior management and team levels.
- The ability to think and plan
strategically whilst delivering to demanding time scales.

- Analytical and investigative when
required but focused on the larger picture and the delivery required.
- Excellent awareness of all statutory
regulations pertaining to the built environment.
- Previous experience of selecting
suppliers and contractors with the necessary project management skills to
ensure delivery/success.
- Pre-opening hotel experience (highly
desirable)
