Job Description: Carryout Team Member at Mark’s Feed Store

Position Title: Carryout Team Member
Reports To: General Manager

Position Overview:

The Carryout Employee at Mark's Feed Store is responsible for providing excellent customer service by assisting guests with carryout orders. This includes accurately taking orders, packaging food items, ensuring that orders are complete, and delivering them to customers in a timely and professional manner. The Carryout Employee plays an essential role in ensuring a positive customer experience for guests who choose to take their meals to go. They also maintain cleanliness and organization in the carryout area.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service:

    • Greet customers promptly and warmly as they enter the carryout area, providing a friendly and positive atmosphere.

    • Take customer orders over the phone or in person, answering any questions about the menu, specials, or ingredients.

    • Confirm order details with customers to ensure accuracy, including special instructions or dietary preferences.

    • Provide assistance in finalizing orders, including suggesting add-ons, sides, or drinks to enhance the guest's meal.

    • Ensure that all customer inquiries, concerns, or requests are handled professionally and promptly, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

  2. Order Preparation & Packaging:

    • Accurately package food orders for carryout, ensuring that all items are included, properly portioned, and securely wrapped or packaged for transport.

    • Double-check orders for completeness and correctness before handing them over to the customer.

    • Label and organize carryout orders according to pick-up times or special instructions to ensure a smooth process.

    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace for packaging and preparing carryout orders.

  3. Order Delivery (if applicable):

    • Assist with delivering carryout orders to customers' cars or designated pickup areas when needed, ensuring a prompt and courteous experience.

    • Ensure that food is delivered at the correct temperature and in good condition.

  4. Cash Handling & Payment Processing:

    • Process customer payments accurately, including handling cash, credit/debit cards, and gift cards.

    • Ensure the proper handling of tips and follow company procedures for tipping out.

    • Provide customers with accurate receipts and change, ensuring a positive and efficient transaction.

  5. Maintain Cleanliness & Organization:

    • Keep the carryout area clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies such as bags, containers, napkins, and utensils.

    • Regularly clean and sanitize countertops, shelves, and high-touch areas in the carryout area to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.

    • Replenish stock of condiments, napkins, and utensils as needed.

  6. Support Teamwork & Communication:

    • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to ensure that carryout orders are prepared and packaged according to customer specifications.

    • Work as a team with other restaurant employees to ensure that all orders are fulfilled efficiently and on time.

    • Support other team members in completing tasks, including cleaning, restocking, and assisting with customer orders.

  7. Promote Special Offers & Upselling:

    • Promote special deals, menu items, or catering services to carryout customers as appropriate, encouraging add-on purchases or upselling.

    • Assist with promoting any loyalty programs or other promotional offers to enhance customer engagement.

  8. Safety & Compliance:

    • Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines, including the proper handling and storage of food and drink items.

    • Ensure that the carryout area complies with all health and safety regulations.

    • Follow proper procedures for handling food allergens or other special customer needs as outlined by company policy.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Customer Service: Excellent communication skills with a friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor when interacting with customers.

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to check orders for accuracy and ensure that customers’ specific requests are met.

  • Time Management: Ability to efficiently manage time and handle multiple tasks, especially during peak hours, while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, assisting colleagues when needed to ensure smooth restaurant operations.

  • Multitasking: Capable of handling multiple carryout orders and customer interactions simultaneously.

  • Organization: Strong organizational skills for managing orders, packaging food, and maintaining a clean work environment.

  • Cash Handling: Experience handling cash and processing payments accurately is preferred.

  • Experience: Previous experience in food service or customer-facing roles is a plus, but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (4-8+ hours) with periodic breaks.

  • Perform repetitive motions, including frequent use of hands and arms for tasks such as chopping, stirring, carrying, and operating equipment.

  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, stretching, twisting, and reaching above eye level.

  • Capability to walk up and down stairs and use a step ladder as needed.

  • Occasional sitting, talking, and active listening as required by the role.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly as part of job duties, including but not limited to food supplies, dishware, and equipment. When handling heavier loads, employees MUST use appropriate lifting equipment and/or seek assistance from a second person. 

  • Ability to move around the kitchen quickly and efficiently.

  • Compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.


Work Environment/ Job Conditions:

  • Flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Work in a loud, fast-paced environment.

  • Employees may regularly work in varying temperature zones, including hot kitchen areas with stoves, ovens, grills, and fryers, as well as cold storage areas like refrigerators and freezers.

  • May involve exposure to heat, noise, and cleaning chemicals in the kitchen area.

  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and training to ensure safety and comfort while handling temperature-sensitive tasks.

  • Awareness of temperature fluctuations and safe practices is essential for maintaining food safety standards and personal well-being.

  • Job duties span both indoor and outdoor settings, requiring adaptability to different environments.
