Maxime’s is the newest opening from the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private member’s clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s in London. 

Opening early in 2025, Maxime’s is located on Madison Avenue, New York on the site of the former Westbury Hotel and will continue the long-established Birley tradition of providing exceptional experiences for our members and guests. 

Maxime’s mission is to deliver excellence in service standards and hospitality. Exhibiting passion for what we do within the values of who we are. Inward looking rather than outward projecting. A club of comfort and discretion where members’ needs are met with personality and humility. An environment of stimulating décor, celebrating outstanding food and extraordinary wine. Our members will feel that they are in a private house, being looked after with the utmost care and professionalism by friendly and attentive staff.   

The Lead Bartender is responsible for all aspects of the guest experience at the bar, including greetings, menu sales, bar maintenance, overall guest satisfaction and happiness, fond farewells and maintain a general command of the food and beverage menu. The Head Bartender supports the bar team to ensure excellent service and hospitality by imparting their strong product knowledge and providing upskilling opportunities. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain warmth and hospitality in all correspondence with guests 
  • Take orders from guests, ensuring 100% accuracy when entering orders into POS 
  • Help guests to make selections from food and beverage menus, suggest courses and pairings, explain any off-menu dishes, answer all food preparation questions  
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with standard recipes 
  • Check identification of all customers who appear under 30 to verify they are of legal drinking age prior to serving them 
  • Communicate with the kitchen to manage timing of courses, any guest feedback, etc. 
  • Process guest payments in timelyaccurate manner 
  • Accurately report cash and credit card tips and contribute to tip pool as applicable 
  • Assist with the development and creation of cocktails, cocktail techniques, cocktail presentations and offerings  
  • Complete opening and closing side work checklist for shift daily 
  • Set up the bar; fill wells with ice, prepare fruit trays, restock the bar with beer, liquor, wine, glassware, juices; stock trash cans and towels, etc. 
  • Peel, slice, and pit fruit for garnishing beverages, following Maxime’s standards 
  • Maintain an understanding of Maxime’s food menu and have the ability to clearly describe our offerings  
  • Have a grasp of Maxime’s beverage program and be able to summarize our philosophy and identify our different offerings  
  • Understand different types of allergy restrictions and help communicate potential issues to floor and kitchen staff 
  • Assist with guest complaints by finding a way to say yes; involve the manager on duty as needed 
  • Process financials on shift-by-shift basis, including submitting accurate cash sales 
  • Strategize the menu, storage and product changes with the bar management team 
  • Inspect all incoming beverage orders and invoices for accuracy and ensure no product is damaged or incorrect 
  • Control inventory for restaurant operation supplies  
  • Work with management to continuously improve standard operations procedures 
  • Maintain sanitation to DOH standards; Keep work area clean and organized  
  • Inform supervisor on duty immediately of any DOH or OSHA/workplace safety violations 
  • Update knowledge and skills by participating in staff training opportunities 
  • Be a team player—support and assist your fellow team members whenever possible 
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management  
  • Communicate all necessary guest information with the team to set everyone up for success (allergy alerts, VIPs, special requests, celebrations, etc.) 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)

  • Minimum 2+ years working as a bartender in a fine dining restaurant or hotel environment in a similar capacity. 
  • Has a passion for exceptional hospitality in food and beverage.  
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. 
  • Operates at a high level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail. 
  • TIPS Certification preferred.  
  • NYC DOH certification preferred. 
  • Familiarity with restaurant POS and reservations systems is preferred. Ability to learn and adapt to new systems (Tevalis & SevenRooms) required.  
  • Able to work nights, weekends and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business.  
  • Willingness to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment. 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the restaurant. 
  • Ability to operate with grace under pressure. 
  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates. 
  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.
