ABOUT THE COMPANY 

Maxime’s is the newest opening from the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private member’s clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s in London. 

Maxime’s is located on Madison Avenue, New York on the site of the former Westbury Hotel and will continue the long-established Birley tradition of providing exceptional experiences to our members and guests. 

Maxime’s mission is to deliver excellence in service standards with enlightened hospitality. Exhibiting passion for what we do within the values of who we are. Inward looking rather than outward projecting. A club of comfort and discretion where members’ needs are met with personality and humility. POSITION SUMMARY 

The Zodiac's Bar and Lounge, Maître D’  will own greeting members and guests into the space, arranging seating, and a warm welcome. They will also assist management in overseeing live musical performances and DJ sets. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensuring all members are welcomed to the Zodiac using the appropriate name/title.  
  • Seating members and guests according to their preferences and business needs. (e.g. spreading across server sections, avoiding reserved tables, etc.) 
  • Completing seating with a warm welcome by pulling out chairs/barstools/tables as appropriate. 
  • Working with the service team to identify members and inform of any preferences/requests. 
  • To ensure all club rules set out in the member handbook are adhered to by our members and their guests.  
  • Monitoring all bookings, guest lists, function sheets etc. for accuracy before the start of each service and assist management in function preparations.   
  • Welcoming musical talent and settling them in assigned spaces. 
  • Assisting musicians in AV connections and testing levels. 
  • Owning musical program timing throughout service with coordination between musicians/DJs and management/kitchen. 
  • Adjusting music settings throughout service for transitions to/from iPad playlists, musicians, and DJs. 
  • Maintaining appropriate music levels throughout service through a combination of speaker system iPad controls, DJ panel, and the musician connection panel. 
  • Adjusting lighting settings throughout service to appropriately match time of day. 
  • Answering the telephone, dealing with all enquiries as necessary.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS) 

  • Must have Hotel or Restaurant reception experience.  
  • Must have familiarity with various musical instrument AV connections and mixer settings. 
  • Must have experience in adjusting music levels on instrument mixers and DJ panels to accommodate different instruments and spaces. 
  • Able to quickly assess and make changes needed during service to music levels to fit the number of guests, time of day, and musical content. 
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. 
  • Familiarity with restaurant POS and reservations systems is preferred. Ability to learn and adapt to new systems (Tevalis & SevenRooms) required.   
  • Knowledge of phone systems and proper phone etiquette, or ability to learn.  
  • Able to work nights, weekends and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business.   
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail.  
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.  
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is always welcomed.  
  • Able to work well in a team environment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates. 
  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.
