Proper Hospitality is seeking a Director of Finance at Montauk Yacht Club, our 107-room luxury property within The Collective.

Spanning 35 acres on Montauk’s Star Island, Montauk Yacht Club offers waterfront views, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options and over 200 wet slips that can accommodate boats from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. Holding eight decades of East End history as an elite social club and thoughtfully reborn for the modern traveler, guests can expect classic East Coast architecture, well-appointed interiors and detail-driven amenities. 

The Director of Finance serves as a strategic partner to the General Manager and Executive Leadership Team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations. This role ensures financial health, supports strategic decision-making and aligns financial practices with Montauk Yacht Club’s vision of delivering exceptional guest experiences. Our ideal candidate combines strong analytical acumen with a deep understanding of hospitality operations, emphasizing proactive financial management and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Strategy
  • Develop and implement Montauk Yacht Club’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting, capital expenditure planning and long-term financial modeling
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to optimize revenue, profitability and operational efficiency
Financial Operations
  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and cash management
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets and cash flow projections
  • Monitor working capital and manage liquidity to support operational needs
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, tax laws, and corporate policies
  • Manage internal and external audits, maintaining strong internal controls and financial integrity
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks through sound analysis and proactive measures
Revenue Management Support
  • Collaborate with the Revenue Management team to analyze market trends, pricing strategies and revenue performance
  • Evaluate financial impacts of sales, marketing and operational initiatives to drive profitability
Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor the Finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and excellence
  • Provide financial training and guidance to department heads to enhance overall fiscal understanding
Technology & Systems
  • Oversee the implementation and optimization of financial systems, tools, and software
  • Leverage technology to streamline financial processes and improve data-driven decision-making
Qualifications:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of financial management experience, preferably in luxury hospitality or boutique hotel settings
  • Proven track record of successful financial leadership and strategy implementation
Skills & Competencies
  • Exceptional financial acumen with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Deep understanding of hospitality financial metrics, including RevPAR, ADR, GOPPAR, and labor cost management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficient in financial systems (e.g., Opera, Micros, SAP, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel capabilities
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities with a focus on developing talent
