Kitchen Porter

Full Time | The Moorland Country Hotel | Haytor, Dartmoor
40 hours per week, Over 5 days

A role behind the scenes. A team at the heart of an exceptional experience.

Nestled beneath the iconic Haytor Rock, The Moorland is a timeless country hotel rooted in the history, character and natural beauty of Dartmoor.

Dating back to 1887 and famously associated with Agatha Christie, The Moorland offers guests a truly memorable escape — with elegant accommodation, warm and gracious service, moorland walks and superb food celebrating the very best of Devon.

Our kitchen is no different.

With chef-led menus built around fresh, locally sourced produce, our team takes pride in creating everything from timeless British classics to innovative, contemporary dishes. From Devon meats and free-range poultry to fresh fish arriving daily from Brixham, provenance and quality are at the heart of what we do.

We’re now looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our team and play a vital role in keeping our kitchen running at its very best.

What will you be doing?

As a Kitchen Porter, you’ll be one of the people who makes great hospitality possible.

Working closely with our chefs and wider kitchen team, you’ll help keep the operation clean, organised and running smoothly — making sure our chefs have everything they need to deliver exceptional food to our guests.

Your day will include:

  • Keeping the kitchen, equipment and back-of-house areas clean and immaculate
  • Washing and sanitising crockery, cookware, utensils and kitchen equipment
  • Supporting the chefs with basic food preparation and general kitchen duties
  • Ensuring clean equipment and supplies are always available
  • Helping with deliveries, stock and kitchen organisation
  • Managing waste and recycling responsibly
  • Maintaining excellent standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food safety
  • Supporting the kitchen team during busy services
  • Following health & safety procedures and helping to create a safe working environment
  • Most importantly, being a dependable team player who is always ready to get stuck in

What are we looking for?

You don’t need to have worked in a professional kitchen before. We can teach you the skills — what we really need is the right attitude.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Takes genuine pride in keeping things clean and organised
  • Is reliable, hardworking and ready to get stuck in
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Can keep calm and focused when things get busy
  • Has a positive, can-do attitude
  • Understands the importance of high standards
  • Is keen to learn and develop
  • Takes pride in playing their part in creating a great guest experience

If you’ve worked in hospitality or a kitchen before, that’s a bonus — but it’s not essential.

Why join the Coaching Inn Group?

At The Moorland, you’ll become part of a family-oriented culture where our people are at the heart of everything we do.

We believe great hospitality starts with great teams, which is why we offer:

  • Work-life balance – We genuinely believe in finding the right balance and working together to provide flexibility.
  • Your share of the tips – 100% of gratuities are distributed to our teams every week through our Tronc scheme via TipJar.
  • Award-winning development – Fantastic career development programmes to help you grow and progress.
  • Recognition that matters – Our Hero of the Month and Hero of the Year schemes celebrate the people who go the extra mile.
  • Amazing discounts – Up to 50% off food across our hotels and 50% off accommodation.
  • Something rather special – Our annual £1 stay offer.
  • Support when you need it – Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.

Be part of The Moorland

There’s something special about working at a hotel like The Moorland.

You’ll be surrounded by the beauty of Dartmoor, working alongside people who care about what they do and helping to create memorable experiences for every guest who walks through our doors.

If you’re hardworking, positive and ready to become an important part of our kitchen team, we’d love to hear from you.
