AGM Job Description 

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for helping the general manager oversee a business’ day-to-day operations.  One who consistently demonstrates the company’s core values and embraces the company culture.  The assistant general manager will assist with training, recruiting, promotions and planning.  An assistant general manager should be experienced in a supervisory role and be able to confidently deliver performance feedback.  They should help set goals, foster teamwork and clearly communicate business objectives.  The AGM must be able to competently perform duties in the absence of the general manager.  

Duties Include 

Managing tasks:  

  • Cooperating with the general manager and assisting with anything from project planning to staff management 
  • Nurturing positive working relationships with the staff 
  • Place food truck orders 
  • Order supplies 
  • Handle disputes

Training/Policies: 

  • Assist with coaching and training new employees 
  • Ensure daily that the restaurant is open and staffed appropriately 
  • The restaurant is clean, inventory levels are appropriate, and equipment is working properly 
  • Ensures and promotes food and team safety 
  • Work in Operations during peak times to build unity and identify opportunities  
  • Fills in gaps when other leadership is absent 
  • Resolves conflict 

Communication: 

  • Communicates daily with the General Manager 
  • Maintains effective communication with leadership  
  • Focus on solutions 
  • Review of Food Safety Reports with the Leadership team 
  • Acts as a liaison between employees and upper management   

Execution of Business Plan: 

  • Collaborate schedules for team members  
  • Oversee staff and process performance 
  • Ensure restaurant Facilities and Equipment Maintenance Program is being followed 
  • Disciplinary issues 
  • Monitor shifts 
  • Analyze Food and Labor Cost reports with leaders, finding opportunities and creating an action plan around those to execute for that month 
  • Delivering operational excellence in all areas of the restaurant to ensure remarkable customer experience 

Minimum Requirements, Knowledge and Skills:

  • 5-7 years of experience in the industry, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food preparation, and safety standards.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. ·
  • Ability to effectively manage a team, delegate tasks and provide constructive feedback.
  • Dependable and motivated with a strong work ethic 
  • Solid track record of success in previous roles including demonstrated career growth 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all areas in the restaurant 
  • Ability to be organized and handle pressure of multi-project time/issue management 
  • Discretion and confidentiality 
  • QSR experience preferred 
  • ServeSafe Certification 
  • Minimum 9-hour shifts 
  • Must have open availability 
  • Able to work a variety of shifts including mornings, days, evenings and Saturdays 
  • Work Holidays 

Physical Requirements:

The following are physical actions that are commonly required during the performance of the daily job routine. They include but are not limited to the following:

  • Walk continuously throughout the shift
  • Ability to bend, twist and stand for extended periods of time to perform normal job functions
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Use protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection and/or other protective equipment deemed appropriate as needed.
  • Any and all other physical movements necessary to complete assigned tasks.
