We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled caretaker to provide full0time care for our young adult daughter, who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS). She is non-verbal, wheelchair-restricted, and requires comprehensive care, but her joyful spirit and the family's supportive environment make this a rewarding opportunity.
Position Overview
The Caretaker will provide personalized, full-spectrum care to a young adult female with MS in a private Christian home. The role involves assisting with daily living activities, medical needs, and mobility, while fostering a positive, respectful, and faith-centered environment. The ideal candidate is empathetic, patient, and experienced in caring for individuals with complex medical conditions, with a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our daughter.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assist with all activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, ensuring dignity and comfort.
- Mobility Support: Safely transfer the patient to/from her wheelchair, bed, or other equipment using proper techniques and assistive devices (e.g., Hoyer lift).
- Medical Care: Administer medications as prescribed, following a strict schedule and documenting accurately.
- Monitor and report changes in health status, including MS symptoms, to the family and healthcare providers.
- Coordinate with nurses, therapists, or doctors for appointments and follow-up care.
- Nutrition: Prepare or assist with meals tailored to dietary needs, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration. May involve tube feeding if applicable.
- Companionship: Engage the patient through meaningful interaction, such as reading, listening to music, or participating in activities aligned with her interests and abilities, fostering emotional well-being.
- Household Support: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized care environment, including light housekeeping related to the patient's needs (e.g., laundry, sanitizing equipment).
- Faith and Culture: Uphold the family's Christian values, participating in prayer or spiritual activities as appropriate, and contributing to a positive, uplifting home atmosphere.
- Communication: Provide regular updates to the family on the patient's condition, needs, and progress, while respecting her non-verbal communication methods (e.g., eye tracking, gestures).
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience providing full-time care for individuals with neurological conditions (e.g., MS, ALS, or similar) or disabilities requiring wheelchair use.
- Experience with non-verbal patients and assistive communication methods preferred.
- Education and Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or equivalent certification preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Training in safe patient transfer techniques and use of medical equipment (e.g., Hoyer lift, feeding tubes) strongly preferred.
- Skills: Strong understanding of MS and its physical/emotional impacts.
- Excellent interpersonal and observational skills to interpret non-verbal cues.
- Proficiency in medical documentation and medication administration.
- Physical ability to lift, transfer, and assist with mobility (must be able to lift up to 50lbs safely).

Work Environment
- Location: Care will be provided in the family's private home in Charlotte, North Carolina, a comfortable and welcoming setting with excellent amenities.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40-50 hours per weeks, with a rotating schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Live-in option available if preferred.
- Support: The caretaker will work alongside family members, occasional visiting nurses, and therapists, with access to all necessary medical equipment and supplies.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: Competitive, ranging from $60,000-$80,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Benefits: Health insurance (medical, dental, vision) after 90 days.
