Sommelier opportunity at Northcote in an Era of Exciting Expansion

Northcote, a distinguished country house hotel nestled in the heart of the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, is celebrated for its Michelin-starred restaurant led by Lisa Goodwin-Allen. Following its recent acquisition by The Ellis family, we are embarking on an exciting period of growth, including the development of a brand-new restaurant and further enhancements to our luxury offerings.

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to curate and deliver exceptional wine service within our acclaimed restaurant and across our private dining spaces. This is a unique opportunity to shape our wine program, educate our team, and enhance our dining experiences. 

As our Sommelier, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert wine recommendations and pairing suggestions to our guests, demonstrating a deep understanding of our menu and wine list.
  • Delivering impeccable wine service at the table, including decanting, pouring, and presenting wines with confidence and knowledge.
  • Training and educating our front-of-house team on wine knowledge, service standards, and cellar management.
  • Managing wine inventory, ensuring optimal storage conditions and minimising wastage.
  • Assisnt in developing and updating the wine list, keeping abreast of current trends and sourcing exceptional wines.
  • Contributing to the overall beverage program in collaboartion with the Sommelier and Bar team. 
  • Participating in wine tastings and events to further your knowledge and promote our wine program.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience as a Sommelier in a high-end restaurant environment, ideally within a Michelin-starred or equivalent setting.
  • A deep and comprehensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varietals, vintages, and wine production methods.
  • Excellent wine service skills and a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently engage with guests and colleagues..
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach with a strong work ethic.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development within the world of wine.
