Description

Northstar Restaurant Group + Brassica is looking for an exceptional individual to join our accounting team. As a member of Northstar and Brassica’s support office, you’ll contribute each day to help our organization achieve our goal of being the most loved restaurants in the neighborhoods we serve. Our support office team is small, nimble and works behind the scenes to help our restaurants create loved experiences, today and for decades to come.

As Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for driving the evolution of our accounting systems and processes, supporting day-to-day accounting operations, preparing and analyzing financial statements, as well as optimizing and executing period-end close and audit activities.

This role is ideal for someone who is not only an exceptional accountant, but also a builder and problem solver; someone who is energized by leveraging technology, automation, AI, systems integrations, and process improvement to create a more efficient, scalable, and accurate accounting function. The right candidate will be curious, take ownership of their work, and continuously seek ways to make us better, in ways both big and small.

Core Responsibilities at Northstar Restaurant Group + Brassica:

  • Drive continuous improvement across the accounting function by identifying and implementing process enhancements that increase efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and timeliness.
  • Leverage AI, automation tools, system integrations, APIs, and workflow technologies to reduce manual work, improve data quality, and streamline accounting operations.
  • Build and maintain scalable reporting, reconciliation, and financial processes that improve visibility, standardization, and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead and support system implementations, upgrades, and optimization initiatives across accounting, payroll, banking, expense management, and related financial systems.
  • Develop documentation, workflows, and best practices that strengthen controls, consistency, and automation.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements and analyses that support informed decision-making and exceptional restaurant experiences.
  • Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial reviews, and compliance with US GAAP and internal controls.
  • Perform and oversee complex accounting activities, including depreciation, amortization, lease accounting, and occupancy allocations.
  • Analyze financial and operational performance trends.
  • Partner with restaurant operations leaders, purchasing, HR, technology, construction and other teams to ensure accurate accounting and support business initiatives.
  • Prepare month-end reporting packages, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and support audit activities.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner who combines strong technical accounting expertise with a mindset of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in restaurants, hospitality, or retail
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting including GAAP research tools and FASB codification
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with ability to multitask and meet deadlines in an efficient, effective and organized manner
  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial teams
  • Eagerness and ability to learn industry-specific software; knowledge of Restaurant365 a plus
  • Willingness to learn and understand operations by completing a portion of initial training and onboarding in our restaurants
  • Self-motivated, curious, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness to go ‘above and beyond’ when needed to ensure timely completion of deliverables

This role offers the opportunity to be part of something bigger than the numbers: supporting our restaurants so that we can share joy and delicious food while making a positive impact on the world. Your work will help ensure that we continue creating loved experiences for guests and team members alike.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Our comprehensive benefits package includes health, vision and dental insurance, 401k with company match, HSA, paid vacations + sabbaticals, complimentary and discounted meals, short and long-term disability, paid parental leave, and an active lifestyle benefit.
