Northstar Restaurant Group and Brassica is looking for a Kitchen Equipment Service Technician to help keep our commercial kitchen equipment safe, reliable and exceptionally well-maintained. 

This role is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, energized by solving problems and a continuous learner. As a member of our facilities team, you will work to maintain, troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment across Northstar Restaurant Group and Brassica locations. 

Core Responsibilities at Northstar Restaurant Group + Brassica

  • Diagnose equipment issues and identify correct parts required for repair.

  • Install replacement parts, test equipment for proper operation and safely return equipment to service.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment inside the restaurant and on the roof.

  • Exhibit a desire to learn equipment operating sequences, safety expectations, standardized field practices, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot equipment problems.

  • Complete basic refrigeration training to support cold-side equipment maintenance and reduce reliance on third-party service providers.

  • Safely use hand tools, socket sets, wrenches, multimeters, cordless drills, grinders, jacks and MAP gas torches.

  • Maintain clear communication with the Lead Equipment Service Technician and restaurant leaders regarding maintenance needs, equipment status and completed repairs.

  • Study technical resources, including Commercial Food Equipment Service Association training materials.

Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in commercial kitchen equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record sufficient to operate a company service vehicle.

  • Ability to safely work around electrical equipment up to 480V, including three-phase systems up to 150A and safely handle equipment containing high-voltage storage components, including capacitors up to 15,000V.

  • Willingness to learn through hands-on experience, independent study, coaching and feedback.

  • Ability to follow established procedures and approach equipment diagnosis safely and  thoughtfully.

  • Competence working in commercial kitchens near gas, water and electric.

  • Ability to travel as needed, with schedule flexibility that supports operations outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Typical working hours range from 2am to 2pm. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, perform work on kitchen floors and stand for several hours at a time.
