LEAD BARTENDER

Pay Rate: $25.35 per hour, plus tips (tip credit applies)

Position Summary
Lead Bartender will lead service at the bar to ensure that recipes, techniques and service all meet JAG standards and exceed guest expectations.  Lead Bartender will drive the beverage education and training for the service team.  Lead bartender will consistently and efficiently produce innovative beverages while providing guests an authentic culinary experience paired with impeccable service in a friendly, enthusiastic, professional, and timely manner. Lead Bartenders perform responsible alcohol service; receive and fulfill beverage orders from serving staff or directly from guests. Lead Bartenders follow recipes, procedures and presentation standards consistently to ensure the best possible product is produced and executed. Offer direction to and partner with the bar team to exceed our guests’ expectations and to provide them with nothing less than extraordinary dining experiences. 

Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Lead Trainer for all bartenders/barbacks, new bartenders and continuing education for existing team following the JAG training guidelines.

  • Point of contact for bartender questions regarding cocktails/techniques.

  • Inspect all bar areas before service to ensure bar is set up for service: cleanliness; clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.

  • Quality Control of all prep ingredients, spot checking taste and monitoring recipe proficiency of the bar team.

  • Quality control of cocktail recipes and standard pours of the entire bar team.

  • Perform or ensure that the team does daily requisition for alcoholic and nonalcoholic products.

  • Updating prep lists and pars with Beverage Manager.

  • Keeping track of necessary mise en place and communicating needed items to Beverage Manager.

  • Assist with inventory management by updating par stocks and daily organizing of storage.

  • Know/Learn how to operate with culinary equipment, ingredients and techniques, both traditional and modern for the making of cocktails.

  • Assist with updating and revising Opening/Closing side work with Beverage Manager.

  • On site point of contact for any events that require cocktails with the Beverage Manager.

  • Point of contact for supervising and scheduling bar deep cleans with the Beverage Manager.

  • Work on new cocktails in collaboration with the Beverage Manager.

  • Communicate with the Beverage Manager in regards to bar staff training and implementation of drinks/systems.

  • Ongoing education for themselves and the encouragement of education amongst their team.

  • Check identification of all guests who appear under 30 to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.

  • Proactively limit problems and liability related to guests' excessive drinking by communicating with management and taking steps such as persuading guests to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated guests.

  • Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from guests.

  • Serve wine, and bottled or draft beer following service standards.

  • Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks to standard.

  • Greet guests within 2 minutes of being seated and introduce the restaurant concept and menu to guests. Maintain an active and accurate knowledge of wine, beverage, food and dessert menus.

  • Ability to articulate an appealing description of every item we offer. Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods.

  • Suggestive sell beverages, bottled water, wine, specials, desserts at every opportunity.

  • Ensures each item for guests are rung in the POS system and are delivered in a correct and timely fashion.

  • Ensure plates and silver are cleared and changed as needed.

  • Presents an accurate check to the guest, splits the check as requested and accepts payment.

  • Reconciles checks and follows all cash handling procedures to ensure accuracy, safety and security.

  • Thanks guests for patronage and invites guests to return.

  • Speak with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and to respond to complaints.

  • Communicate with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and guests to ensure that dining details are handled properly and guests' concerns are addressed- especially allergy or special requests.

  • Keep beverage storage areas neat and organized.

  • Perform other duties as requested, such as executing special guest requests and assisting other teammates.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Must be able to speak clearly, read, write and understand English to facilitate the communication process.

  • Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware.

  • Thorough knowledge of menu items and service procedures.

  • Ability to take direction and work in a team environment and to work calmly and effectively under pressure.

  • Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized.

  • This position will spend 100% of the time standing or walking.

  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.

  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.

  • May be required to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. occasionally.

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
