Job Summary:

The Franchise Business Manager (FBM) will serve as the primary liaison between the franchisor, i.e. Papa John’s (UK) Ltd and the operating unit franchisees in the designated geographical area. In this role you will drive operational excellence and standards in partnership with franchisees of various business sizes. This role will also consult and partner with franchisees to develop annual business plans that meet desired goals for comparable sales, profitability and unit growth.



Responsibilities: 


Ensure Franchisees obtain Business Excellence

  • Accountable for Franchisee EBITDA and driving/leading change for success 
  • Accountable for operational excellence and driving sales in the marketplace
  • Communicate and implement changes to standards, policies and contracts with Franchisees and follow up on all issues within the Franchisee contract.
  • Accountable for Franchisee relationships, sales, operations excellence, growth and training.
  • Relationship owners– single point of contact for Franchisees

Ensure Franchisees have appropriate coaching, training, education and development tools in place

  • Work in partnership with Regional Trainer to ensure Franchisees have completed and implemented all current store level training programs and provide feedback
  • Responsible for following up and ensuring all new product and process roll-outs are in stores
  • Assess training needs of assigned Franchisees and identify problem(s) where training needs are evident and liaise with the Regional Trainer to develop targeted training
  • Provide hands-on training during store visits
  • Identify operational gaps and make recommendations on areas for improvement
  • Assess and share best practices

Enforcement of the franchise contract

  • Responsible for understanding, interpreting, upholding and enforcing standards, policies and contracts
  • Work with the Operations Director to manage Franchisee applications, default and termination process, including exit strategy for assigned region
  • Partnership with Property and Development Team to execute Franchisee commitments to store investment initiatives (equipment, relocations, reimages…)

Partner with Regional LSM Team to develop and implement Franchise specific and regional marketing plans and initiatives

  • Coordinate with LSM to facilitate Regional Co-ops to share Regional and System best practices

Serve as link between Papa John’s Support Office and Franchisees

  • Serve as first line contact between PJ’s head office and Franchisees – Share Best practices among all groups
  • Communicate regional and company goals including information from other support departments such as Marketing, Communications, Finance, IT and HR 
  • Communicate changes to standards, policies and contracts, relay Franchisees comments to Head of Operations Excellence.
  • Ensure that all franchise accounts and documents are up to date
  • Document, communicate and follow-up on all Franchisee concerns
  • Clearly communicate company direction and reasoning to Franchisees.
  • Coordinate all necessary resources in crisis situations, i.e. robbery, death, natural disaster, etc.

To carry out any other reasonable management instruction to the expected standards that ultimately supports the business.



Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstratable operations experience, ideally in a Franchise business
  • Practical self-starter used to delivering big things to tight deadlines and will be used to demonstrating exceptional leadership behaviours, especially when partnering effectively with internal customers and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a passion for creativity and innovation.
  • Strong operational professional from retail, restaurant, hospitality or service industry background.
  • Knowledge of franchise restaurant business.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong Partner Management & Relationship skills.
  • Communication skills within a large complex organisation.
  • A creative thinker who can leverage and shape a simplification strategy to create maximum impact, engagement and return.
  • Comfortable and interested in the detail with a good ability in operational analytics.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Excel, Word, and e-mail applications with an aptitude to learn internal computer systems to perform critical job functions
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid U.K. driver’s license
  • Ability to successfully perform the job duties of all positions in the restaurant, including pizza delivery markets
  • A Levels or equivalent preferred
  • Management experience in Catering/Retail
  • Minimum 5 years experience of working in a franchised business environment or similar
  • Proven track record of building credible professional relationships in a business environment
  • Experienced in ensuring operational effectiveness for multi-unit organizations
