Position: Production Lead 
Location: Newtown, CT 
Pay: $27/hr. 

ABOUT THE ROLE: 

The Production Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the production line, ensuring that all manufacturing processes run smoothly, efficiently, and safely. This role involves supervising a team of production workers, ensuring high-quality output, meeting production targets, and maintaining adherence to company policies and safety standards. The Team Lead plays a crucial role in continuous improvement efforts, troubleshooting production issues, and fostering a collaborative, positive work environment.

Popup Bagels originated as a backyard pickup window, aiming to share a freshly crafted bagel recipe with friends. It has evolved into multiple PopUp and permanent locations, offering always-fresh weekend pickup. Our mission is simple: preparing the finest, freshest bagels. There is no extravagance, just pure perfection: a crispy crust, a soft crumb center, an ideal size, and the perfect blend of seeds. We're proud recipients of the Brooklyn Bagelfest "Best Bagel" award for two consecutive years, and we're eager for you to experience a dozen of our delectable bagels.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Team Leadership and Supervision:  

  • Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of production workers. Assign daily tasks and ensure all employees follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), GMP standards, sanitation protocols and performance expectations.
  • Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Provide training and guidance to new and existing team members. 
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute shift-level production to meet volume targets, quality standards, and delivery deadlines (includes but not limited to sequencing SKUs, managing throughput, allocating labor etc.)
  • Ensure proper safety and compliance regarding proper use of PPE, emergency procedures, conducting safety meetings, as well as upholding a culture of safety within the team. 
  • Report any hazards or incidents to management and taking corrective action as needed.

2. Production Operations: 

  • Ensure production output are met and adjust team assignments as needed.
  • Manage production workflows to ensure optimal efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and resolve problems quickly to minimize downtime. 
3. Quality Control: 

  • Oversee and enforce quality control standards to ensure products meet company and regulatory standards. 
  • Conduct regular inspections of work and products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Identify and address any quality issues and implement corrective actions. 
4. Continuous Improvement: 

  • Identify areas for process improvement and work with the production team and management to implement solutions. 
  • Suggest and lead initiatives to increase productivity, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency. 
5. Communication and Reporting:

  • Communicate effectively with management and other departments to relay important production updates, issues, and needs. 
  • Maintain accurate production records, including output, materials used, and downtime. 
  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly, or monthly reports on production progress and team performance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Have mechanical aptitude and understanding to monitor and troubleshoot production equipment to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency (mechanical or electrical) and performing minor adjustments, escalating when necessary.
  • Have open availability and the flexibility to work weekends, holidays and occasional second shifts as needed 
  • Prior experience in a leadership position within a fast-paced production environment (experience in food production preferred). 
  • Experience working in a production environment. 
  • Experience working with heavy machinery. 
  • An eye for detail and solving challenges. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • The willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in wherever necessary. 
  • The ability to perform the physical requirements of the position (frequently lifting 30 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds). These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodations. 
  • The ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time.
