Job Location: Home base at Meriden, CT facility, NE regional travel to NY, VT, VA, MD, PA, NJ, MA and ME with 1-2 overnight trips (1 night) per week.

Job Type: Full-time, regional, short-haul OTR driver with 1 to 2 overnight shifts per week.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Class B CDL Driver to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating company vehicles to deliver goods to various locations across NE states in a timely and efficient manner. This is a regional, over the road (OTR) driving position with 1-2 overnight shifts per week.The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Key responsibilities include loading and securing deliveries, performing routine vehicle inspections, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and ensuring all delivery documentation is accurate and complete. You will work closely with dispatch to meet scheduled delivery times while adhering to all traffic laws and company safety protocols.

Role status: Non-exempt, hourly.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently operate a delivery vehicle (i.e., van, truck) to transport goods to specified locations.
  • Load, unload, and deliver packages or food/refrigerated products to designated destinations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Follow routes and schedules provided by dispatch or management, adjusting as necessary to accommodate changes or traffic conditions.
  • Verify items and quantities before delivery to ensure accuracy and completeness of orders.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including courteous interactions with customers and timely resolution of delivery-related issues or concerns.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies while driving and delivering goods.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of delivery vehicles, performing routine inspections and reporting any maintenance issues.
  • Complete delivery logs, records, and other paperwork accurately and promptly.
  • Demonstrate professional maturity and strictly uphold PopUp Bagel’s anti-discrimination & anti-harassment policies.
  • Assist with other tasks or duties as needed, contributing to overall team efficiency and success.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Active Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (must be maintained throughout employment).
  • Completion of CDL training program or equivalent commercial driving experience.
  • Ongoing compliance with Department of Transportation continuing qualification requirements.
  • Clean driving record that meets company and DOT/FMCSA standards.
  • Prior experience delivering food/restaurant items and handling products highly preferred!

Knowledge of:

  • Safe vehicle operation practices, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and Hours of Service rules.
  • Basic vehicle inspection and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Proper methods for loading, securing, and unloading cargo.
  • Local and regional delivery routes, traffic patterns, and navigation systems.

Skilled in:

  • Safe and efficient driving of commercial vehicles in varied traffic and weather conditions.
  • Effective time management to meet delivery schedules.
  • Accurate completion of delivery logs, inspection reports, and other required paperwork.
  • Customer service skills for professional interaction with clients during deliveries.

Must be able to:

  • Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, or overtime as required.
  • Remain alert and focused during long driving periods.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with dispatch, supervisors, and customers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial motor vehicle.

  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance or mechanical support.
  • Capability to bend, kneel, crouch, or climb as needed for loading, unloading, and securing freight.
  • Visual acuity and depth perception sufficient to safely operate a commercial vehicle, read gauges, and complete inspections.
  • Hearing ability adequate to perceive traffic signals, safety warnings, and communicate with customers or team members.
  • Tolerance for working in variable weather conditions during loading/unloading and while driving.
  • Ability to pass and maintain DOT medical certification and comply with all Department of Transportation physical qualification standards.
