Paia Inn is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join the team at our 15-room boutique luxury inn on Maui’s stunning North Shore.

Just steps away from a three-mile stretch of white sandy beach, Paia Inn offers 15 rooms, two inspired settings for meals or a cocktail, and multiple creative venue options. Located in the heart of Paia, this home away from home boasts modern amenities with historic Hawaiian character, allowing guests to live like a local.

Reporting into both the General Manager and Centralized Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for all boots-on-the-ground financial operations, including payroll processing, financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. A general familiarity with payroll is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the hotel's financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger
  • Process and oversee payroll functions, ensuring accurate and timely payment to employees while adhering to relevant laws and regulations
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to provide accurate and timely financial information to management
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
  • Monitor and reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies
  • Prepare and submit tax returns, including sales tax, occupancy tax, and payroll tax, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Conduct regular audits of financial processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes
  • Stay updated on industry trends, changes in accounting regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and recommend improvements to management

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Accounting Manager or similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry
  • General familiarity with payroll processing and related regulations
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and budgeting
  • Proficient in using accounting software and MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with integrity
  • Knowledge of hotel operations and familiarity with hospitality industry financial practices is a plus
