Job Purpose

To ensure the pub premises, fixtures, fittings, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting smooth day-to-day operations, compliance with safety regulations, and an excellent customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and basic installations across the building, bar areas, kitchen, beer garden, and accommodation (if applicable).
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests promptly to minimise disruption to staff and customers.
  • Undertake painting, decorating, basic carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical work (within competency).
  • Maintain outdoor areas: jet washing, gardening, clearing gutters, repairing fencing, etc.
  • Ensure cellar equipment (lines, pumps, coolers, etc.) is in safe working condition – liaise with technical service providers where needed.
  • Check toilets, lighting, heating, and general facilities daily, reporting or fixing any faults.
  • Assemble, repair, or adjust pub furniture and fixtures as required.
  • Maintain stock of basic tools, hardware, and materials.
  • Assist with compliance checks (fire alarms, emergency lighting, PAT testing schedules, etc.).
  • Support refurbishment or improvement projects as directed by management.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a handyman, maintenance, or facilities role (hospitality experience desirable).
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, painting/decorating, and minor electrical tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and carry out repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Awareness of health & safety procedures and safe working practices.
  • Good communication skills and ability to liaise with external contractors when needed.
  • Self-motivated with good organisational skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours when urgent issues arise.
