Car Parking Attendant

Position Purpose
As
a car parking attendant, you represent the face of the business and are
responsible to assist with the smooth and safe flow and parking of Petersham
Nurseries customer cars. It is important you are polite, courteous, alert and
visible at all times. Your role also includes ad hoc maintenance tasks set by the
groundsman and operations manager including but not limited to the ongoing
maintenance of Church Lane, assisting maintain the bin areas, as well as ground
maintenance and cleanliness.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Be considerate of
pedestrians and Church goers also using Church Lane.
- Address all
customers that you see with a “good morning” or “good afternoon” greeting upon
arrival and a “thank you for visiting the nurseries today” farewell, It is important
that you address all customers as Sir or Madam when talking to them.
- Offer help with
directions/questions if you cannot answer a question, politely direct the customer
to reception.
- Offer to carry
boxes or bags if someone is carrying a lot to bags to their car.
- Offer to take
trolleys back to the Nursery for customers.
EQUIPMENT
- On each shift you
should clock in on mitre finch, Report.
- Parking
attendants must carry a walkie-talkie on them at all times so they may
communicate with other attendants and with Receptionist. Walkie-talkies are
kept in the front office and must be put on charge each evening.
- Walkie-talkies
must be signed out and in with the Receptionist.
- Walkie-talkies
should always be returned to the charging point in Reception at the end of your
shift. There are 2 walkie-talkies’ available for car parkers use, clearly
labelled so. These are company property. If walkie-talkies are unreturned at
the end of a shift, or if lost or damaged whilst in your possession you may be
charged for a replacement.
- All parking signs/
necessary parking equipment returned to Reception at the end of each day. No
signs to be left on Church Lane.
OPERATIONAL
- When you arrive
at the beginning of your shift, you will be provided with rubbish/debris
pickers, a broom a rake and a bucket. These
should be used to pick debris from the lane - all debris should be put in a bucket.
You are also responsible to weed, sweep and rake Church Lane and around the
Nurseries as required. The lane and the borders should look tidy and clean at
all times - this again is a reflection on Petersham Nurseries.
- Ensure the smooth
flow of traffic on Church Lane, speed limited 5mph.
- Ensuring that the
cars parked on the lane are parked appropriately in order to maximise the overall
parking space.
- Ensure that the
communication between both car parkers is effective so that the “car park full”
sign is not used when there are spaces available. Turning away cars when spaces
are indeed available can affect service in the restaurant if guests are late
for their tables and result in lost revenue for the business.
- Communicating politely
and effectively with customers to ensure that cars are parked well to maximise space.
- Be aware of
customers leaving and entering the lane. It is illegal for cars to reverse out
onto the main Petersham Road. If a customer is trying to leave however a car is
trying to enter from the road, the car leaving has right of way. You must stop
the car trying to enter lane and let others leave.
- Ensure no cars
are parked in the turning circle.
- Ensure no
delivery vehicles are parked for longer than 10 minutes within the turning
circle blocking the entrance to our neighbour’s garage.
- Ensure no cars
are parked outside the Boglione house gate blocking entrance.
- Ensure no
deliveries are coming down Church Lane between 11.30am – 3.30pm. Let Reception
know the name of the supplier if any do so we can follow up with them. When deliveries are necessary, use initiative
to manage maintain good flow of traffic.
- Any accidents/
collision/ incidents that occur on Church Lane should be reported to Paula or Bobby
and a record kept.
- Assisting with the
upkeep of the bin/recycling area
- Assisting in
putting bins and recycling out for collection and relevant days.
- There should be
no sitting on the fence during your shift.
Parkers are expected to use professional body language and to appear available
and open to assisting customers. Helping customers, parking cars and ensuring
the maintenance of the lane are your priorities.
- To carry out any
other tasks asked of you by your Line or department managers, including but not
limited to the ongoing maintenance of Church Lane, assisting maintain the holding
reserve bay areas, as well as ground maintenance.

QUALITIES
- Adhere to company
dress code, attendance and time keeping standards.
- To represent Petersham Nurseries’ high standards of personal
presentation and behaviour at all times.
- Work as part of a
team by sharing duties and demonstrating flexibility with regard to hours and
days of work.
- To maintain the standards and culture of the team by setting an example
to new members of staff and assisting in their training when required.
UNIFORM
- You should look
smart and tidy at all times.
- A Petersham
t-shirt/sweatshirt should be worn with Petersham florescent jacket when working
in the dark.
- A Petersham cap
to ensure that you are easily identifiable.
- Smart jeans or
smart shorts in hot weather - no writing or rips in either.
- Smart, clean
wellington boots or smart black trainers or boots.
OTHER
- No texting on
shift or talking on mobile phone unless directly connected to work.
- No, I-pods/
MP3’s/ Music players to be used during your shift. No chewing gum on your
shift.
- No caps or hats
to be worn other than the one provided by Petersham - worn the right way around
with peak of cap at the front.

- To observe the company’s fire plan and health and
safety policy.
