The Group Carpenter is responsible for carrying out a wide range of carpentry and general maintenance works across the hotel group, supporting the upkeep, improvement and development of guest and staff areas. This is a hands-on, practical role covering everything from decking and outdoor structures to shelving, repairs, room improvements and general joinery.
The role will include travelling to our sites across Cornwall and Devon
The role plays a key part in keeping our hotels looking beautiful, safe, functional and on-brand.
Build, install and repair:
Decking, balustrades, steps, pergolas, outdoor structures
Shelving, cupboards, wardrobes, benches and storage units
Doors, frames, skirting, architraves and trims
Basic furniture repairs and modifications
Carry out room and public area refresh works (e.g. panelling, feature walls, headboards, boxing-in, etc.)
Support small refurb projects and upgrades across the group
Assist with general maintenance tasks as required, including:
Minor patch repairs, fittings, fixtures
Basic plumbing or decorating works (where competent)
Making good after other trades
Carry out reactive maintenance and planned preventative works
Identify and report larger repair or safety issues
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard, safely and neatly
Work in line with:
Health & Safety requirements
Fire safety and building safety standards
Keep work areas tidy and minimise disruption to guests and operations
Risk assess tasks and use tools and equipment correctly
Work across multiple properties as part of the group maintenance team
Support wider maintenance and refurbishment projects
Liaise with:
Hotel General Managers
Maintenance teams
External contractors where needed
Proven experience as a carpenter / joiner / maintenance carpenter
Confident in:
First and second fix carpentry
Basic joinery and construction
Using hand and power tools safely
Good general building / maintenance knowledge
Full UK driving licence
Able to work independently and manage your own workload
Experience working in hotels, hospitality or similar environments
Multi-skilled background (e.g. basic plumbing, decorating, tiling)
Experience with outdoor structures and decking
Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship
Pride in workmanship and attention to detail
Practical, solutions-focused and can-do attitude
Well organised and reliable
Flexible and happy to travel between sites
Calm, professional and respectful in guest-facing environments
Understands the importance of guest experience and presentation
Hotels are consistently well maintained, safe and beautifully presented
Repairs and improvements are completed quickly and to a high standard
Small projects and upgrades are delivered efficiently in-house
Guests and teams notice the difference in quality and finish
