  FOOD & BEVERAGE / GUEST SERVICE ASSISTANT 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for friendly and enthusiastic Guest Service Assistants to join the team at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel as we prepare for the next chapter of this iconic Plymouth hotel.

 We are recruiting for one full-time position, as well as a number of part-time and casual positions. All roles require regular evening and weekend availability.  

This role will have a strong food and beverage focus, with most of your shifts spent supporting the hotel’s restaurant, bar, weddings and events. However, as part of our flexible hotel team, you will also be trained to work on reception and may be asked to cover reception shifts when required.

You will play an important part in creating memorable guest experiences across the hotel, from serving food and drinks to welcoming guests at reception.

This role requires regular evening and weekend work, so applicants must be available during these times. Shift patterns will vary depending on the needs of the hotel and its events calendar.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GUEST SERVICE ASSISTANT

What you’ll be doing:

  • Welcoming guests warmly and providing friendly, attentive service throughout their visit
  • Taking and processing food and drink orders accurately, including dietary requirements and special requests
  • Serving food and drinks while maintaining high standards of presentation and service
  • Supporting restaurant, bar, wedding, event and function service across the hotel
  • Setting up, cleaning and resetting tables, function rooms and service areas
  • Preparing and serving a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
  • Processing guest payments accurately
  • Restocking drinks, equipment and supplies ready for service
  • Working closely with the kitchen and wider hotel team to provide a smooth guest experience
  • Completing reception training and covering reception shifts when required
  • Welcoming and checking guests in and out of the hotel
  • Responding to guest enquiries and providing information about the hotel and local area
  • Answering telephone calls and assisting with reservations and general enquiries
  • Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, food hygiene, security and health and safety
  • Supporting colleagues across the hotel during busy periods

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • A friendly and professional approach, with a genuine passion for creating positive guest experiences
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends is essential
  • Flexibility to work across food and beverage and reception when required
  • Flexibility to work shifts based on the hotel’s business and events calendar, including bank holidays
  • Previous restaurant, bar, wedding, events or reception experience would be an advantage, but full training will be provided
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • A keen eye for detail when taking orders, handling payments and completing reception tasks
  • A team-focused attitude and willingness to support colleagues across different areas of the hotel
  • The energy and confidence to work effectively in a busy hospitality environment
  • A reliable and punctual approach to work
  • Confidence using computers or a willingness to learn the hotel’s reception systems
  • Applicants serving alcohol must meet the relevant minimum-age requirements
