An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Operations Manager to join the leadership team at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel.

This is a key role within the hotel, with responsibility for leading our day-to-day operation and a particular focus on developing our Food & Beverage offering. You will oversee our restaurant, bar and events operations while supporting the wider hotel, ensuring consistently high standards of service and a memorable experience for every guest.

Working closely with the General Manager and the wider leadership team, you will play a central role in developing our teams, improving commercial performance and shaping the next chapter of this iconic Plymouth hotel.

The Duke of Cornwall Hotel is one of Plymouth’s most recognisable and historic hotels. Full of character and with a proud place in the city, the hotel is entering an exciting new chapter.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN OPERATIONS MANAGER AT THE DUKE OF CORNWALL HOTEL

  • Oversee the hotel’s daily operation, ensuring all departments work smoothly and efficiently together.
  • Lead, support and develop department heads and their teams, creating clear expectations and maintaining high standards.
  • Take responsibility for the Food & Beverage operation, including the restaurant, bar and events, with a focus on service, quality and profitability.
  • Be a visible and hands-on leader throughout the hotel, supporting the team during busy periods and leading by example.
  • Monitor guest feedback, respond effectively to concerns and identify opportunities to improve the guest experience.
  • Review operational and financial performance, including room and F&B revenue, payroll, costs and profitability.
  • Carry out regular operational checks to maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, maintenance and guest safety.
  • Work closely with Sales, HR and other support functions to deliver the hotel’s commercial and people objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, licensing and other operational requirements.
  • Maintain strong communication between departments to create a consistent and seamless experience for guests.

    WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
  • Proven experience in a senior hotel operations role, with a strong background in Food & Beverage leadership.
  • Experience leading restaurant, bar and events operations within a busy hospitality environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to develop, motivate and manage departmental teams.
  • A good understanding of wider hotel operations, including Front Office and Housekeeping.
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets, controlling costs, driving revenue and improving business performance.
  • The confidence to make decisions, solve problems and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across the hotel.
  • A hands-on and visible leadership style, with a genuine passion for people, hospitality and delivering excellent guest experiences.
  • The flexibility required to support a hotel operation that runs seven days a week, including evenings and weekends when needed.
