A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COMMIS CHEF AT OUR HOTEL
What you'll be doing...
Plan, create, and update menus based on seasonality, guest preferences, and cost efficiency
Ensure all dishes meet the hotel’s standards for taste, presentation, and consistency
Develop and maintain standardized recipes and portion sizes
Supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff to maintain high performance standards
Plan staff rotas and ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts
Monitor staff performance and provide feedback or additional training where needed
Coordinate with restaurant managers, and service staff to ensure smooth operations
Manage kitchen budgets and control food costs through portion management and waste reduction
Oversee ingredient ordering, storage, and stock rotation to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality and value
Ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations (e.g., HACCP standards)
Respond to guest feedback and adjust offerings to improve customer satisfaction
Uphold and promote the hotel’s culinary identity and brand reputation
Introduce creative dishes and stay informed about current food trends
Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure it is safe and in good working condition
Collaborate with other hotel departments such as purchasing, housekeeping, and management
Handle kitchen emergencies or unexpected challenges calmly and efficiently
Implement sustainable and eco-friendly kitchen practices, such as reducing food waste and sourcing locally
