Description

At Rick Stein Restaurants We are all about fresh seafood, warm service, and a genuine passion for people. From our kitchens to our front-of-house teams, we believe great learning creates great guest experiences.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Learning & Development Manager to lead the delivery and coordination of our Learning & Development strategy across the group. Reporting into the People Director, you will translate people and learning strategy into meaningful, high-quality programmes that drive performance, progression and engagement. You will play a vital role in developing confident leaders, capable managers and engaged teams in a fast-paced, multi-site hospitality environment.

This role will play a central part in embedding our service standards and product knowledge, ensuring every guest enjoys a unique, warm and memorable experience, wherever they encounter the brand. You will ensure learning is not theoretical, but lived — visible in behaviours, confidence and consistency across our restaurants, accommodation and support teams.

This is a hands-on, largely field-based role, working closely with operational leaders and site teams to translate commercial priorities into practical learning that supports performance on the ground. You will bring a strong understanding of hospitality operations, balancing commercial awareness with a genuine passion for service and people development, helping teams maximise their potential while delivering outstanding guest experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery and coordination of the group Learning & Development strategy across a multi-site hospitality business.
  •  Ensure every employee has access to a tailored learning programme aligned to their role, experience and career aspirations.
  • Deliver engaging learning through a blend of face-to-face, on-the-job and digital approaches.
  • Support managers in embedding learning into everyday leadership, performance and development conversations.
  • Translate service expectations into practical, behaviour-led training that is visible in day-to-day operations.
  • Work alongside site leaders to observe, coach and reinforce service excellence on the floor.
  • Design and deliver distinctive hospitality training programmes that combine service excellence, product knowledge and culinary craft.
  • Develop structured apprenticeship and early-career pathways that support progression, capability building and long-term talent development.
  • Create clear learning journeys that support frontline teams, chefs and managers at different career stages.
  • Build a sustainable talent pipeline by identifying, developing and nurturing future hospitality leaders and specialists.
Experience and Skills:
  • Proven experience in a Learning & Development or training role, ideally within hospitality, leisure, retail or another customer-facing, multi-site environment.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality operations, service standards and the behaviours that create memorable guest experiences.
  • Experience designing and delivering practical, field-based training programmes for frontline teams, supervisors and managers.
  • Ability to translate commercial and operational priorities into engaging, relevant learning that drives performance.
  • Experience working closely with operational leaders, building trusted relationships and influencing without authority.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship frameworks and early-career development pathways, with experience coordinating or supporting apprenticeship programmes.
  • Confident facilitator and coach, comfortable delivering training in live operational environments.
  • Experience using learning technology, digital platforms or blended learning approaches to support consistency and accessibility.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, able to manage multiple sites, priorities and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the presence and credibility to engage teams at all levels.
  • A hands-on, proactive approach, with the flexibility and resilience required for a field based hospitality role.
  • Genuine passion for people development, hospitality and continuous improvement.

This is a full time role - 40 hours a week over 7 days, based in Padstow with travel to other locations as required.
