The Role

As the General Manager of the Ring O’ Bells, you’ll take the lead in running all aspects of the pub, ensuring that it continues to be a thriving hub of the local community while delivering excellent food, drink, and service every day. This is a hands-on role that blends operational management with team leadership, customer engagement, and commercial strategy.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Day-to-day operations: Oversee the smooth running of the pub, ensuring every detail—from the first pint poured to the final plate cleared—is delivered to the highest standard.
  • Team leadership: Recruit, train, and manage a passionate team. You’ll create a supportive and rewarding work environment where staff can develop and take pride in their work.
  • Customer experience: Be a visible and welcoming presence, ensuring all guests receive warm, friendly service and feel part of the Ring O’ Bells community
  • Food and drink quality: Work closely with the kitchen team to maintain consistent food standards, ensure menu quality, and uphold hygiene and safety standards
  • Financial performance: Manage budgets, wages, and stock levels with precision. You’ll be accountable for profit margins, cash handling, and cost control, always aiming for commercial efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Sales and marketing: Develop and implement local marketing initiatives, seasonal events, and promotions that draw in new customers and keep regulars coming back
  • Compliance and licensing: Ensure the pub meets all legal and health & safety obligations, including food hygiene, licensing regulations, and employment law.
  • Property and maintenance: Take ownership of the building and grounds, ensuring the pub is clean, safe, and inviting both inside and out.

Essential Requirements:

·        Proven experience as a General Manager or Assistant Manager in a food-led pub or hospitality venue

·        Strong leadership and people management skills

·        Passion for real ales, local produce, and delivering warm hospitality

·        Financial and operational awareness

·        Creativity and commercial instinct to drive the business forward

·        A hands-on, can-do attitude
