Description

Sous Chef – Rok, Mumbles
? Mumbles, Swansea
? £45,000 per year (including service charge)
?   4-Day Working Week

Join one of Wales' most exciting kitchens.

Rok is an acclaimed restaurant at the heart of Bracelet Bay, Mumbles and currently the areas number 1 restaurant on TripAdvisor.

Known for bold, seasonal cooking with a focus on open-fire techniques and the best of Welsh produce. We pride ourselves on a stripped-back, ingredient-led style - think local meat and seafood, earthy vegetables, and punchy flavours, all cooked over flame.

We're about more than just good food - Rok is a mindset. We value sustainability, creativity, team wellbeing, and a work culture that celebrates passion without burnout. With a 4-day working week, free staff meals, and a supportive environment, we’re proving that excellence in hospitality doesn’t have to come at a cost to quality of life.

We’re now looking for a Sous Chef to help lead and inspire our kitchen team as we continue to grow.

The Role – What You’ll Be Doing

As Sous Chef, you’ll work closely with our Head Chef and leadership team to deliver consistently excellent food and service. You’ll be expected to:

  • Lead kitchen service in the absence of the Head Chef, keeping high energy and high standards on the pass
  • Support and mentor junior chefs, helping them grow and develop
  • Oversee prep and day-to-day operations, maintaining efficiency and flow in the kitchen
  • Contribute to menu development, bringing ideas, creativity, and knowledge of seasonal produce
  • Ensure food safety and hygiene standards are always upheld
  • Manage stock, ordering and suppliers alongside the Head Chef
  • Work as a positive role model, keeping morale high and communication clear

Why Rok?

  • £45,000 per year (including service charge)
  • 4-day working week
  • A forward-thinking food culture rooted in sustainability and seasonality
  • Opportunities to develop your career and influence the future of the kitchen
  • A warm, respectful team culture - no egos, no drama
  • Stunning seaside location with fresh local ingredients on our doorstep

What We’re Looking For

  • A passionate, professional chef with experience in high-quality kitchens
  • Leadership qualities: calm under pressure, organised, supportive
  • A strong understanding of seasonality, local sourcing and modern cooking techniques
  • Someone who wants to contribute to something special - not just clock in and out
