The Bowery Group: Maitre’d Job Description

Position: Maitre’d 

FLSA Designation: Non - Exempt 

Reports To: FOH Management 


Position Description: 

As a Maitre’d you are responsible for providing warm and welcoming hospitality to all guests, managing reservations, as well as any walk-ins, and managing the flow of service throughout the night. The Maitre’d position will work to provide the best experience possible for all guests. 



Essentials functions and basic duties: 

  • Takes walk in reservations, figuring out the best way to seat guests 

  • Sends walk ins to the bar or maintains a waitlist when necessary 

  • Constantly communicates table status with guests 

  • Coordinates large party reservations, or special circumstances with management

  • Dynamic personality with the ability to engage guests, and work well with others. 

  • Organized with the ability to maximize cover counts, seating flow, and guest satisfaction.

  • Calm, composed, professional, able to multi task, and work under high pressure situations.

  • The ability to supervise the host staff and ensure proper protocol is always followed.

  • Navigate reservations platform and client database proficiently


Specific Job Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours 

  • Bi-Lateral manual dexterity as required to handle, touch and feel, and reach with hands and arms 

  • Ability to talk and hear clearly

  • Ability to stoop, kneel and crouch

  • Ability to taste and smell

  • Ability to utilize close, distance, color and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and to adjust focus

  • Willingness to work at peak hours, which may include evenings, holidays, and weekends

  • English fluency

  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills to communicate positively

  • Strong problem-solving acumen



Qualifications Standards:

  • High school graduate or equivalent 

  • At least two years in a high-volume, fine-dining restaurant as a Maitre’d 

  • Basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures

  • Sexual harassment training required

  • Resy experience preferred
