Description

Quantity Surveyor Ross & Ross | Residential, Heritage & Hospitality Projects

Do you get oddly excited about a really good spreadsheet?

Do you enjoy making the numbers add up, spotting where a project might go off track before anyone else has noticed, and turning a complicated construction project into something that feels beautifully under control?

If so, keep reading.

We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing residential and hotel project management and cost consultancy at Ross & Ross.

And this isn't your average QS role.
We're lucky enough to work on some captivating, enchanting and seriously rewarding projects — from beautiful private residences and traditional country houses to the restoration of heritage properties and hospitality projects.

You'll work closely with our project managers, helping our clients bring their ambitions to life whilst keeping a very close eye on the things that matter: quality, value, time and, of course, the budget.

Because beautiful projects are even better when the numbers work.

Where is this role?

Our office is based in Hungerford, with frequent travel to our projects — most of which are within around an hour's drive of the office.
So, you'll get the best of both worlds: a base where you can work alongside the team, and plenty of opportunities to get out onto some genuinely interesting projects.

We're growing, which means there is plenty of scope for the role to grow with us too.

A typical week might include...

  • Providing risk, value management and cost estimates.
  • Preparing detailed elemental cost plans for projects.
  • Putting together tender documents and making sure everything is ready to go to market.
  • Analysing tender returns and helping our clients make smart decisions about where to spend their money.
  • Identifying opportunities for value engineering — because sometimes the cleverest solution isn't the most expensive one.
  • Owning contract particulars, requirements, claims and disputes.
  • Reviewing monthly valuations and applications for payment.
  • Negotiating on behalf of our clients and issuing interim payment certificates.
  • Taking on Contract Administration responsibilities.
  • Working closely with our Project Managers to make sure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Most importantly, helping our clients feel listened to, supported and confident throughout their project.

You'll be someone who can look at the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
And when something doesn't quite add up, you're the person who wants to know why.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 3 years' Quantity Surveying experience and/or a relevant Project Management qualification.
  • Is CIOB or RICS qualified, or working towards a relevant professional qualification.
  • Has previous experience within construction and/or residential development.
  • Has strong commercial awareness and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Has a good working knowledge of different forms of construction contract — particularly JCT.
  • Is confident reviewing valuations, issuing payment notices, preparing cost reports and undertaking Contract Administration responsibilities.
  • Is comfortable with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Is commercially sharp but also understands that successful projects are ultimately about people.
  • Is organised, pragmatic and able to keep multiple projects moving at once.
  • Is confident enough to challenge when something doesn't look right — but collaborative enough to find the solution.
  • Takes pride in getting the detail right.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who gets things done. Someone who doesn't just report a problem, but starts thinking about how to solve it. Someone who can work independently, but enjoys being part of a close-knit team.

What You'll Get From Us

  • A great starting salary depending on candidate's skill and experience
  • You'll join a growing consultancy working across residential, heritage and hospitality projects, where no two projects are quite the same.
  • You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced Project Managers, get involved in some genuinely fascinating developments and build strong relationships with clients along the way.
  • And more to be discussed at interview stage!
