Luminescence Marshal & Technician

Fixed-Term Position:
This is a fixed-term position commencing on 5 October 2026 and ending on 26 February 2027.

The salary for the fixed-term period will be £10,500, based on an average working commitment of 32 hours per week. Due to the nature of the role and the operational requirements of the business, the actual hours worked each week may vary, and flexibility and availability to work more or fewer than the average 32 hours will be required. It is expected that hours will broadly balance out over the full period of the fixed-term contract.

Any holiday accrued during the fixed-term period and remaining untaken at the end of the contract will be paid in accordance with statutory requirements.

Luminescence at Swinton

Luminescence is Swinton’s winter light trail, transforming the estate parkland section into an illuminated visitor experience with lighting installations, seasonal features and atmospheric outdoor spaces. The event welcomes guests through the winter season and relies on a well-presented, safe and a smoothly operated trail.  Last year we sold approximately ten thousand tickets over a four-month period.

Job Purpose

To support the safe, efficient and memorable delivery of Luminescence, Swinton Estate’s winter light trail. The role combines visitor support, basic technical assistance and operational duties to ensure the trail, equipment and guest areas are presented and maintained to a high standard throughout the event.

Key Responsibilities:

 Work Tasks

  • Welcome and assist visitors, providing a friendly, professional and safe experience throughout the trail.
  • Patrol designated areas, monitor visitor flow, support wayfinding, queue control and crowd management.
  • Inspect lighting installations, infrastructure and trail features, reporting faults, damage or safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist with the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting and dismantling of lighting, sound, power and associated event equipment where trained and directed.
  • Ensure cables, generators, lighting fixtures and equipment are safe, secure and well presented.
  • Support routine maintenance, cleaning, minor repairs, replenishment of supplies and housekeeping across visitor and backstage areas.
  • Monitor weather and site conditions, escalating any issues affecting visitor, staff or contractor safety.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies and first aid situations in line with event procedures.
  • Assist with vehicle movements, deliveries and contractor access where required.
  • Handle customer enquiries and complaints courteously, escalating where appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues, contractors, security and management throughout each shift.

 General

  • Complete required checklists, fault reports, incident records and other role-related administration.
  • Carry out duties assigned by management in line with company policies, procedures and event requirements.
  • Attend training, briefings and meetings as required.
  • Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and public holidays during the Luminescence season.

 Additional Expectations

  • Be confident, approachable and courteous in a public-facing role.
  • Maintain a presentable appearance, wearing Luminescence uniform and PPE where required.
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Health, Safety & Professionalism

  • Follow Swinton Estate’s Health & Safety Policy, event procedures and safe systems of work at all times.
  • Comply with electrical safety procedures and use equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Report hazards, defects, accidents and near misses promptly.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain a safe, welcoming and professional environment.

Requirements

  • Experience in events, visitor attractions, hospitality, customer service or outdoor operations is desirable.
  • Experience with lighting, AV, temporary event infrastructure or basic electrical systems is advantageous but not essential.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and remain calm under pressure.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Full UK driving licence, First Aid or electrical awareness qualifications are desirable.
