We take pride in being a reputable and forward-thinking employer, committed to fostering a supportive, engaging, and dynamic work environment. As a carbon-neutral estate with an ambition to become carbon negative, we are equally dedicated to environmental responsibility as we are to our people. Our culture is built on continuous improvement, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose. We place a strong emphasis on the wellbeing of our team, recognising that our people are at the heart of everything we do.

At Swinton Estate our chefs work with exceptional seasonal ingredients that reflect the landscape around us. Our ethos is simple Estate to Plate, celebrating provenance, sustainability and the very best of Yorkshire.

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our talented kitchen team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to develop their culinary skills within a dynamic environment where creativity, learning and respect for ingredients are at the heart of everything we do.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operation. We are committed to nurturing both our environment and our people, creating a workplace where collaboration, wellbeing and professional growth are truly valued.

The Role

Working alongside our wider brigade, you will play an important role in the preparation and service of exceptional food for our guests. You'll gain hands-on experience working with ingredients harvested from our kitchen garden, estate game, home-grown produce and carefully selected local suppliers, learning how seasonality and provenance shape our menus.

This role offers an excellent foundation for chefs at the beginning of their career who are keen to develop their skills in a supportive and inspiring setting.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Assisting in the preparation, cooking and presentation of dishes to the highest standards.
  • Learning and maintaining exceptional kitchen standards, ensuring consistency and quality at every service.
  • Supporting the team with stock rotation, deliveries, food storage and kitchen organisation.
  • Developing an understanding of menu planning, cost control and effective stock management.
  • Carrying out daily kitchen procedures including temperature checks, food labelling and hygiene records.
  • Maintaining impeccable standards of cleanliness and food safety.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the kitchen and front of house teams to deliver memorable guest experiences.
  • Participating in training and development opportunities to build your culinary knowledge and skills.
About You

You will have a genuine passion for food, an eagerness to learn and a positive attitude towards teamwork.

You'll bring:

  • Enthusiasm for seasonal cooking and a curiosity about provenance and sustainable food practices.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a professional kitchen environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A flexible approach to working hours in line with the needs of the business.
  • A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene, safety and professionalism.
