Starbucks Shift Supervisor

Location: Licensed Starbucks at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, Washington

Position Summary

The Shift Supervisor leads day-to-day café operations when the manager or Assistant Manager is not directing the floor. This person sets the pace for service, deploys the team, protects food-safety and cash-handling standards, and coaches baristas in real time. The position requires steady judgment and professional communication in a fast-moving hospital environment.

Leadership and Operations Responsibilities

  • Lead opening, mid, or closing operations and assign positions, breaks, checklists, cleaning, preparation, and restocking based on business needs.

  • Maintain required coverage and ensure meal and rest breaks are provided on time. Escalate coverage problems before a break is missed.

  • Coach baristas on beverage quality, speed, customer connection, food safety, attendance, and established café procedures.

  • Model respectful leadership, address behavior promptly, and document or report performance concerns without arguing on the floor.

  • Resolve routine customer concerns and escalate serious complaints, safety concerns, medical incidents, or security issues.

  • Complete assigned cash-management duties, till counts, safe procedures, deposits, and required shift documentation accurately.

  • Verify food dating, product rotation, box markings, pulls, freezer counts, inventory entries, waste records, and required shift photos.

  • Monitor product and equipment conditions and communicate shortages, maintenance needs, or operational risks quickly.

  • Support training and reinforce Starbucks recipes, routines, and floor expectations.

Qualifications

  • Previous barista, food-service, retail, or team-lead experience is preferred.

  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and customer-recovery skills.

  • Able to give clear direction, accept feedback, hold partners accountable respectfully, and exercise sound judgment.

  • Comfortable with cash handling, food safety, inventory routines, and written shift documentation.

  • Available for early mornings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays based on café needs.

  • Able to stand for extended periods; safely bend, reach, and move supplies; and maintain required food-worker credentials.

Schedule and Work Environment

The café is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and weekends from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Shift Supervisors may be scheduled before opening or after closing and must be able to respond calmly when volume, staffing, or equipment conditions change.
