Job Summary:

STK Steakhouse, part of The ONE Group, is seeking a talented and driven Sous Chef to join our high-energy culinary team. The Sous Chef will assist in overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring exceptional food quality, staff performance, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. This position requires a passion for excellence, strong leadership abilities, and a dedication to providing an outstanding dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations, ensuring food preparation meets STK’s quality standards and timelines.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations, while promoting a positive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with California health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, sanitation, and safe storage practices.
  • Participate in menu development and recipe standardization, contributing creative ideas while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies, monitoring stock levels to minimize waste and control food costs.
  • Uphold California labor laws, including meal and rest breaks, proper scheduling, and adherence to minimum wage and overtime regulations.
  • Support a safe work environment by reporting any hazards or incidents and enforcing all safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assist in monitoring food quality and presentation, making necessary adjustments to maintain consistency and excellence.
  • Address and resolve any kitchen issues promptly to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a high-volume, upscale restaurant kitchen, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of various cooking techniques, cuisines, and food safety standards.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and train a diverse kitchen team, fostering a culture of respect and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with California labor laws and food safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to kitchen management.
  • Food Handler Certification required; ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a kitchen environment, which may include exposure to extreme heat, steam, and cold.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the kitchen for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds as needed.
