Host / Receptionist
Receptionist/Host - SUMI, Notting Hill
SUMI opened on Westbourne Grove in 2021 and has become one of Notting Hill’s most loved neighbourhood restaurants. Created by renowned sushi master Endo Kazutoshi and part of Creative Restaurant Group, SUMI serves nigiri, temaki and dishes from the robata grill, with warm, genuine hospitality at its heart. We’re looking for a Receptionist/Host to be the first and last face our guests see.
The Role
As Receptionist/Host, you will set the tone for every guest’s visit, from the first phone call or booking to the warm goodbye at the door. Many of our guests are regulars, so getting to know them and their preferences is a big part of the role. You will work closely with the Restaurant Manager, Head Waiter and wider team as one team, keeping the flow of the evening smooth and every guest feeling looked after.
This is a brilliant opportunity for someone organised and personable who wants to grow in confidence and build a lasting career in hospitality.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Welcoming guests with warmth and professionalism as they arrive
- Managing reservations, the waitlist and walk ins through our booking system
- Answering calls, emails and messages promptly and politely
- Planning table allocation to make the most of every service
- Recognising regular guests and remembering their preferences
- Recording dietary requirements, allergies and special occasions accurately
- Keeping the floor team updated on arrivals, timings and guest notes
- Managing coats, guest departures and confirmation calls
- Keeping the entrance and reception area immaculate
- Taking part in daily briefings and ongoing training
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience as a host or receptionist in a quality restaurant or hotel would be an advantage. We are just as interested in people with the right attitude, energy and desire to learn.
You will need:
- A warm, confident and professional manner
- Excellent communication skills, in person, on the phone and in writing
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to stay calm and friendly when the door is busy
- Confidence using booking systems such as SevenRooms or OpenTable
- A team first attitude
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays
Salary: Upto £16 p/h, plus benefits
Why Join Us?
At Creative Restaurant Group, we want people to build careers, not simply fill roles. You will learn alongside experienced hospitality professionals. As your skills develop, you’ll have genuine opportunities to progress into Head Host, Reservations Manager, supervisory and management positions.
- Join one of Notting Hill’s most loved neighbourhood restaurants
- Hands on training and ongoing development
- Clear opportunities for career progression
- The chance to grow across Creative Restaurant Group, including ENDO, Kioku and HUMO
- Staff meals while on duty
- Employee discounts across participating restaurants
Bring your warmth, personality and organisation to SUMI Notting Hill, and help us make every guest feel welcome from the very first hello.
Note: Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK without corporate sponsorship.
