SUMI Notting Hill

Description

Chef de Partie - SUMI, Notting Hill

SUMI opened on Westbourne Grove in 2021 and has become one of Notting Hill’s most loved neighbourhood restaurants. Created by renowned sushi master Endo Kazutoshi and part of Creative Restaurant Group, SUMI serves nigiri, temaki and dishes from the robata grill, with warm, genuine hospitality at its heart. We’re looking for a Chef de Partie to join our kitchen and grow with us.

The Role
As Chef de Partie, you will run your own section and help keep the kitchen running smoothly every service. Our menu brings together sushi, small plates and dishes cooked over the robata grill, all built on the finest seasonal ingredients. You will work closely with the Head Chef, Sous Chef and our sushi team, as one team delivering food our regulars keep coming back for.

This is a brilliant opportunity for a chef who wants to deepen their knowledge of Japanese technique and produce, and build a lasting career with a growing group.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Running your section with pride, precision and consistency every service
  • Preparing and presenting every dish to recipe and standard
  • Cooking over the robata grill and learning the timing and control it needs
  • Learning Japanese techniques, ingredients and seasonings
  • Working closely with the sushi team to keep service seamless
  • Managing your mise en place, ordering and stock rotation for your section
  • Supporting and guiding Commis and Demi Chefs de Partie
  • Following food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures at all times
  • Keeping your section clean, organised and ready for service
  • Taking part in briefings, tastings and ongoing training

What We’re Looking For
Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or strong Demi Chef de Partie in a quality restaurant is essential. Japanese or robata experience is a real advantage, but we are just as interested in chefs with good technique and a genuine wish to learn.

You will need:

  • A real respect for produce and an interest in Japanese cuisine
  • Strong technical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to stay calm, organised and focused during busy services
  • A team first attitude and clear communication in the kitchen
  • High standards of cleanliness and food safety
  • The drive to keep learning and develop your craft
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays

Salary: Upto £16p/h including service charge, plus benefits

Why Join Us?
At Creative Restaurant Group, we want people to build careers, not simply fill roles. You will cook alongside an experienced kitchen team inspired by Chef Endo. As your skills develop, you’ll have genuine opportunities to progress into Senior Chef de Partie and Sous Chef positions.

  • Join one of Notting Hill’s most loved neighbourhood restaurants
  • Hands on training in Japanese technique, sushi and robata cooking
  • Clear opportunities for career progression
  • The chance to grow across Creative Restaurant Group, including ENDO, Kioku and HUMO
  • Staff meals while on duty
  • Employee discounts across participating restaurants

Bring your skill, curiosity and attention to detail to SUMI Notting Hill, and help us create food our guests remember.

Note: Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK without corporate sponsorship.
