Head of Finance – Role Overview

As a key member of BM’s senior management team, the Head of Finance will provide commercial business partnering and financial support to BM’s leadership team. This role serves as a vital link between BM and WSH’s shared support functions.

A key focus of this position is driving financial performance while upholding BM’s culture and values through effective leadership and clear, strategic communication. Reporting to the Business & Industry Finance Director, this role ensures independent oversight of BM’s financial health, governance, and compliance with WSH’s Finance Control framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Oversight & Reporting
• Lead the month-end and year-end financial processes, ensuring timely reporting and analysis for BM’s leadership and WSH.
• Oversee external audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
• Assess financial and commercial risks across new and existing client contracts, identifying mitigating actions and performance reporting strategies.
• Commercial & Operational Support
• Provide insightful financial analysis to support operational business reviews (both internal and external).
• Build strong relationships within the WSH Operational Finance community, sharing best practices to drive business growth.
• Oversee and approve all BM contracts, working closely with Sales to minimise financial risk before contract signing.
• Investment & Budgeting
• Conduct investment appraisals and financial evaluations of all deals with clients (both existing and new).
• Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring financial planning aligns with business objectives.
• Manage overhead costs, providing accurate forecasting and reporting to department heads

• Leadership & Training
• Deliver financial training to operational teams, ensuring understanding of financial processes and performance expectations.
• Manage and mentor a team of two Finance Business Partners, fostering professional development and strong financial acumen.
• Attend monthly BM Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings and company events as required.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA)
• Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record in financial leadership
• Excellent Excel skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
• Exceptional communication skills – ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
• Strong leadership ability, capable of inspiring and motivating teams to deliver financial success
• A natural relationship builder who aligns with BM’s culture and values

Desirable:

• Experience with MS Great Plains (Accounting Software)
• Prior experience in multi-site retail operations (food service experience is advantageous but not essential)
• A passion for driving process improvements and efficiency
